From 9am on January 23, when the number of passengers arriving at Tan Son Nhat airport is congested inside, two buses will transfer passengers to the parking lot outside for convenient movement.

On January 23, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that from 9:00 a.m. on the same day, shuttle buses will transport passengers from Tan Son Nhat Airport to the outside during the peak period of the Lunar New Year 2025.

Accordingly, the Department of Transport will arrange for 2 buses to park at the existing bus stop area (lane B of the International Terminal, from column 12GF to column 15GF) and the pick-up location at box B6, box B20 of lane B of the Domestic Terminal.

After receiving a request to clear passengers from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the bus will operate on the following route: Departing and picking up passengers at lane B of the International Terminal - picking up passengers at box B6 and box B20 of lane B of the Domestic Terminal - parking lot on Bach Dang Street - International Terminal.

In case the traffic situation at the parking lot on Bach Dang Street is too heavy and cannot move, the shuttle bus will take the following alternative route: Depart and pick up passengers at lane B of the International Terminal - pick up passengers at box B6 and box B20 of lane B of the Domestic Terminal - turn right on Truong Son Street - drop off passengers at the bus stop, bus stop on Truong Son Street - turn around at Huynh Lan Khanh Street - Truong Son Street - International Terminal

The free transfer period is 10 days, from January 23 to January 27 and from February 1 to February 5. The vehicles operate 24/7, the frequency depends on the requirements of Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Information from Tan Son Nhat Airport Operations Center said that today, December 24, the total number of flights expected for the day is about 1,000, including 499 departure flights (341 domestic flights, 158 international flights) and 501 arrival flights (342 domestic flights, 159 international flights).

The total number of expected visitors is about 138,374, of which, the number of departing visitors is 92,382 people (64,238 domestic visitors, 28,144 international visitors); the number of arriving visitors is 45,992 people (19,827 domestic visitors, 26,165 international visitors).

Thus, on average, there will be about 6,000 people at the airport every hour. This is a very large number compared to the current airport infrastructure. If there is no plan to evacuate passengers from the airport, it will greatly affect the take-off and landing of aircraft.

According to the plan to use shuttle buses to transport passengers outside, the parking lot on Bach Dang Street is where taxi and technology car companies stop to wait to enter the airport to pick up passengers. Therefore, when passengers are transferred here, it will be extremely convenient to catch a car to pick up passengers.

Similarly, the bus stop on Truong Son Street is also a location that helps people easily connect to buses as well as taxis and technology cars to go to districts. This location also helps relatives easily access and take passengers home.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Tinh, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Passenger Automobile Transport Association, said that using buses as a means of transportation to relieve passengers from the airport during the Tet peak period is very necessary.

These vehicles should operate continuously in a circle, with the first station inside the airport and the last station outside where people can easily connect to other means of transport to continue their journey.

Regarding long-distance buses that pick up and drop off passengers from the airport to districts, according to Mr. Tinh, some changes are needed to attract people to use them.

In particular, buses must change their design, with fewer seats and more standing space (similar to shuttle buses to the airport), so that passengers can conveniently leave their suitcases, goods, etc. Second, bus stops must be located right at the entrance, in priority locations for easy access; if buses are parked far away, they will not attract passengers.

In addition, there are factors such as cheap and suitable prices; schedules suitable for take-off and landing schedules, bringing passengers on time for check-in procedures, and taking passengers off as soon as they land...

In particular, Ho Chi Minh City needs to research and have priority routes for buses so that this type of public transport is not congested, improves travel speed and attracts more people to use it. This will not only increase the efficiency of bus operations but also reduce traffic pressure on main roads.

"Having priority lanes will help buses operate on time, avoiding delays, especially during rush hour. If buses become convenient and fast, many people will definitely choose public transport instead of using personal vehicles," said Mr. Tinh.
