On the evening of March 21 at J Art Space (30 Street No. 10, Thao Dien, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), artist Bui Chat and J Art Space brought fans a colorful Silk Art Space. The eye-catching collection was created by him over nearly 2 years from 2021 to 2022, during the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic.

The series of paintings is like a psychological therapy the author uses to cope with reality, and to survive his crisis period.

According to art critic Nguyen Hung: " The Silk Zone , at first glance, looks like silk paintings. However, this is not just a purely formal game of "fake materials". Each painting here evokes emotions and thoughts that are both profound and vast, as before the "glittering water bottom reflecting the sky" - both very close, uncertain and vague".

A delicate, translucent palette to express a compassionate heart

Looking at the works of Vung Lua , viewers seem to associate it with the spirit of escapism, wanting to escape from reality to live in the feeling of safety and comfort of an imaginary, nihilistic world . It can also be associated with the escapist literary works of the 1930-1945 period in Vietnam. Reality during Covid-19 is in dire need of escape. Perhaps that is why Bui Chat chose a thin, hazy color palette like silk paintings to express his compassionate heart.

It is known that painter Bui Chat studied and graduated with a bachelor's degree in literature, then a bachelor's degree in law, but never attended any art school or course.

After having to abandon his painting career many times, Bui Chat picked up the brush again with full concentration in 2019. Currently, Bui Chat is advocating a unique style of painting called Situational Painting (Solverism). Bui Chat has held 5 consecutive solo exhibitions in less than a year and a half, and Vung Lua is his sixth exhibition.

Painter Ngo Luc shared: "In many years of following and accompanying Bui Chat, I see in him a pioneering spirit, daring to venture into artistic creation and in many different activities."

Each painting evokes emotions and thoughts that are both profound and vast.

Painter Ngo Luc shared more about Bui Chat and his career: "In many years of following and accompanying Bui Chat, I saw in him a pioneering spirit, daring to explore in artistic creation and in many different activities. He does not limit himself in any circumstances. If you look at it from that perspective, and have been in contact with Bui Chat's previous activities and other jobs (read his biography on Google), you will see that Bui Chat's recent painting activities are interesting and worth being curious about and learning about."

Continuously working tirelessly and creatively, artist Bui Chat is currently one of the few artists with a strong and steady career development, with 6 solo exhibitions in nearly 2 years. In particular, the audience is delighted because these 6 exhibitions are not a result of dividing the works by the number of exhibitions, but each time they appear, they have their own ideas and techniques with clear messages.

And at J Art Space, once again, the Silk Area with 19 oil paintings by artist Bui Chat "shimmering on the water reflecting the sky" surprised many viewers.
