Specifically, the patient is a 12-year-old boy named VMĐ from Hanoi . According to his family, while playing at a shopping mall, the child unfortunately got his foot caught in an escalator. The accident caused two large metal pieces of the escalator to become deeply embedded in the child's left foot.

Here, Dr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, from the Department of Upper Extremity Surgery and Microsurgery, stated that the examination results determined that the child was admitted with two metal plates deeply embedded in the toes of the feet, causing very complex injuries, penetrating from front to back, and extensive bruising. In addition, the wound contained foreign objects, specifically grease from the escalator.
The child underwent emergency surgery performed by doctors from the Department of Upper Extremity Trauma and Microsurgery. Three days after the surgery, the wound healed well, and the patient's mental state was stable.
" This incident serves as a warning to parents when taking their children out, especially when using escalators, to pay close attention to young children. Escalators in supermarkets and shopping malls should also have warning signs to ensure the safety of young children ," Dr. Vinh advised.
It is known that every day, the Department of Upper Extremity Trauma and Microsurgery at Military Central Hospital 108 receives dozens of cases of domestic accidents such as escalator accidents, putting hands into fruit or meat/fish grinders, fabric winches, washing machines, or workplace accidents…
Therefore, experts recommend that in the unfortunate event of an accident, families should provide first aid to the victim and quickly take them to the nearest specialized medical facility for emergency treatment and timely intervention.
