On August 18, according to information from Soc Trang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, the hospital previously admitted a boy named HTL (9 years old, residing in Tai Van commune, Can Tho city) with pain in the right iliac fossa, showing signs of infection.
According to family members, before being admitted to the hospital, the child complained of stomach pain and said he had swallowed a foreign object. The pain gradually increased, causing the child to cry a lot and develop a fever.

After examination and X-ray, the doctor noted a string-shaped foreign object in the abdomen and right iliac fossa.
Four magnets stuck together and caused intestinal obstruction, causing two holes in the patient's intestines. Doctors performed surgery to remove the foreign object.
After successfully removing the foreign object, the baby's health is now stable and is being monitored by doctors.
Doctor CK2 Chung Tan Dinh, Director of Soc Trang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, said that cases of swallowing magnetic toys like the above case are especially dangerous.
Therefore, parents need to pay attention when choosing toys for children to ensure safety. When detecting a case of a child swallowing a foreign object or suspecting that a foreign object has been swallowed, the child should be taken to a medical facility for examination and timely treatment.
