During a podcast with Rio Ferdinand on October 17, Inter Miami president David Beckham did not hesitate to praise the team's number one superstar, Lionel Messi.
Beckham said he was impressed by Messi's first training session. The former England captain clearly remembers Messi arriving three hours earlier than the other players: "On the first day of training, he arrived at 6.50am. There was no one else there. He arrived at 6.50am when training was scheduled to start at 10am.
He prepares everything in the gym, warms up, does all the little things that a young player would do. And yet Messi still maintains that habit. After all he has achieved, he still does not let go."
Beckham was impressed with Messi from day one.
The former Man Utd star commented that Messi is a humble person, very good at motivating young players and not making them feel small.
"I think Messi is an excellent teacher. He is very clever, never considers himself superior to the younger players. He is the type of player who will stay at the training ground to talk and teach football to the young players. Messi is the first one to arrive at the gym and the last one to leave," David Beckham told Rio Ferdinand.
Beckham believes that Messi is quite similar to Ronaldo in this regard. The Portuguese superstar is famous for actively supporting young players.
"I think once a player reaches a high level, they will naturally have the above qualities. You just mentioned Ronaldo. He is a very good player, but beyond his expertise, Ronaldo also tries to help others. Ronaldo has been praised for this virtue for many years," said the former Man Utd player.
Messi actively helps his teammates on the training ground.
Messi, at 37, is still the captain of Inter Miami. The Argentine superstar has scored 19 goals and contributed 12 assists after 21 matches. According to statistics from the beginning of 2024, Messi has scored or assisted about every 60 minutes.
Messi also helped Inter Miami change their lives, taking the team that was at the bottom of the MLS table, to become champions after just over a season. Inter Miami now has 2 titles thanks to Messi's great contribution: the Leagues Cup and the Supporters' Shield.
"If I had to use one word to describe Messi, it would be 'winner'. Not because he has won so many titles, but because he still wants to win every day," Beckham said.
