Ben Tre records first case of monkeypox

On November 11, a representative of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Ben Tre province said that a young man named PTN (born in 1992, a receptionist, residing in Ward 6, Ben Tre City) had just been diagnosed with monkeypox. The patient is being quarantined in his rented room, waiting to be transferred to the hospital for treatment.

Symptoms of monkeypox

Previously, on November 3, the patient developed symptoms of a sore throat and blisters on the upper lip, so he went to a hospital in Ben Tre City. The patient had contact with a doctor, but both of them wore masks.

After the symptoms did not go away, blisters appeared in the anus, genitals, face, hands, etc. On November 9, the patient took a bus to the Dermatology Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for examination and had samples taken because of suspected monkeypox. He then took a bus back to his hometown.

Epidemiological investigation showed that the patient had contact with 3 cases living near the rented room, of which 1 case had symptoms of blisters and frequently traveled between Ho Chi Minh City and Ben Tre; there were 9 other cases when the patient attended a funeral at his home in Giong Trom district. In addition, he wore a mask in daily activities when in contact with others.

Ben Tre Provincial Department of Health has directed Ben Tre Provincial CDC to spray disinfectant at some places where the patient came into contact.

At the same time, CDC Ben Tre will investigate, directly trace the case and prepare an investigation form for monkeypox; send the investigation results and working minutes to the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Health of Ben Tre province. According to the recommendation, in case of fever and blisters, go to the Health Station to take samples and temporarily isolate to wait for test results.
