According to Dr. Vu Duc Cong, Men's Health Center, syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease, bacteria penetrate the skin and mucous membranes from scratches that occur during sex. In addition, bacteria can also spread through the blood through injections, blood transfusions, or from mother to child.
The incidence of the disease in men is twice as high as in women. Early detection of the disease in the early stages makes it easier to control and repel.
Syphilis is divided into 3 main stages with different signs and symptoms in each stage. In addition, between stage 2 and stage 3 there is also a latent stage.

The disease begins with skin lesions in the form of "chancres" and ulcers that can be treated and controlled well. Later complications include dangerous lesions affecting the heart, blood vessels, nerves, organs, and other parts of the body.
Syphilis increases every year due to unsafe sex without regular screening, continuing unsafe sex with many other people.
Dr. Cong recommends maintaining a 1-on-1 relationship. Stay safe by using protection. Get screened for sexually transmitted diseases every 3-6 months. Keep your genital area clean before, during, and after sex.
Previously, the US CDC warned of an increase in syphilis, nationwide data for 2022 has not been released, but the number of cases in 2021 had increased by 32% compared to 2020, reaching more than 176,000 cases. Congenital syphilis affected more than 2,800 children in the US in 2021, up nearly a third from the previous year and the highest rate recorded in nearly 3 decades (since 1993). About 220 of these children were stillborn or died in infancy.
