On the afternoon of December 4, Doctor CK II. Huynh Nhu Dong, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery - Tay Nguyen General Hospital, said that the unit had just successfully performed surgery on a right frontal skull tumor on a 51-year-old female patient.

The patient is TTL (born in 1972, residing in Dak Drong commune, Cu Jut district, Dak Nong province). The patient was admitted to the hospital at 8:47 a.m. on November 27, 2023 with a diagnosis of right frontal skull tumor. The patient had been diagnosed with a right frontal skull tumor for a long time. Recently, the tumor grew faster, so he was hospitalized for treatment. Neurosurgeons had the patient perform all the paraclinical tests and planned the surgery.

On November 29, 2023, the surgical team led by Dr. Huynh Nhu Dong, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery and Dr. Le Huu Hoang performed surgery to remove a large 2x3cm purple bone tumor. The bone tissue was softened and necrotic, eroding the dura mater. After 1 hour, the surgery was a great success. The doctors removed the entire bone tumor and sent it for pathological examination. After surgery, the patient was conscious, with good clinical progress, and is currently continuing treatment, monitoring, and waiting for pathological results.

It is known that this is the first skull tumor surgery performed by doctors from the Department of Neurosurgery - Tay Nguyen General Hospital.

According to Dr. Huynh Nhu Dong, bone tumor is the name of the condition in which a bone tumor appears due to the abnormal growth of bone cells. Bone tumors can be benign or malignant, depending on the cause that each patient encounters. Bone tumors are less common than lipomas, sebaceous tumors, etc. When patients are diagnosed with bone tumors, they need surgical intervention when the tumor grows, affecting aesthetics or threatening their lives.

For skull bone tumors, surgery is quite complicated, requiring high expertise and techniques. When there are signs of the disease, the patient should see a specialist for diagnosis and proper treatment instructions. Diagnosing skull bone tumors is not difficult. However, distinguishing between benign and malignant tumors will have a direct impact on the treatment of the disease. Malignant skull bone tumors are quite rare, but if you have the disease, the risk of progression to bone cancer is very high.
