It is a high relief depicting the count and his wife, Countess Magdalena von Mansfeld (1530-1565), kneeling at the foot of a cross. Photo: @U. Dräger, Halle. The leather bags contained 816 coins, including an extremely valuable “golden angel”, several gold ducats, gold double ducats, silver thalers, half thalers and quarter thalers, along with 800 pennies. Historians believe that the ancient city of Eisleben had an “Aerarium Pastorale” — a common parish fund used for pension and health insurance for pastors, as well as promoting the training of theologians. Perhaps the four bags of money were part of this fund.” Photo: @U. Dräger, Halle.
