In Ben Pha village, Gia Phu commune, the sidewalks that were originally for pedestrians are now encroached upon by large and small billboards, forcing people to walk on the road. Although each shop owner wants to promote their outstanding products, the design and placement of billboards that do not comply with regulations have caused chaos. This area has many billboards of all sizes and colors, crowded together and lacking in aesthetics. Many billboards encroach on the edge of the road, causing obstacles for traffic participants, especially during rush hours.
Billboards occupying the sidewalk in Ben Pha village, Gia Phu commune, Bao Thang district
Ms. Hoang Thi Ha, a resident of Ben Pha village, shared: "In the countryside, we have not seen anyone remind us about this. This needs intervention from the government to solve, but the people can do nothing. Although the billboards look small, they are very confusing and greatly affect the aesthetics."
Mr. Tran Van Cuu, another villager, said: "According to regulations, our row of houses are allowed to be built from the edge of the sewer inwards by a certain number of centimeters and meters, and the signboards excluding our house are also regulated by a certain number of meters. However, some houses are not aware of this, they want their house's sign to stand out more."
Many billboards affect road traffic safety and order.
Although Bao Thang district has directed the functional forces of communes and towns to organize the clearance of encroachment on corridors and sidewalks, and restore traffic order and safety at market places and roadside businesses. However, right after the functional forces left, this situation continued to recur.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Truong, Deputy Head of the Economic Infrastructure Department of Bao Thang District, said: "Management work has encountered many difficulties due to lack of human resources and limited compliance awareness among the people. Although the authorities have intervened, this situation still persists. In the coming time, we will require communes and towns to implement more seriously."
Remove billboards encroaching on sidewalks
Placing and hanging signs and billboards on road land outside urban areas affects road traffic safety and order. Local authorities and functional forces need to have more drastic solutions to propagate, remind, and strictly punish violations, allowing billboards to encroach on sidewalks and roadsides, ensuring safety for traffic participants.
