On July 13, the Asian Billiards Sports Federation (ACBS) sent a notice to the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation (VBSF). This notice clearly states that all officials, athletes, and coaches of VBSF will be banned from attending, participating in, or organizing any events, tournaments, or activities related to billiards in Asia and internationally for 6 months, from June 13, 2024 to January 12, 2025, including the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (in November 2024 in Thailand).
The reason for the penalty is said to be that Vietnam organized a tournament not licensed by ACBS, the Hanoi Open pool in October 2023. In addition, Hanoi is also expected to continue hosting the above pool tournament in October 2024 and the PBA (Korean Professional Billiards Association) tournament.
According to a representative of VBSF, VBSF has sent a written explanation to ACBS. Accordingly, the Hanoi Open pool tournament in October 2023 is not managed by VBSF, but will take place with the permission of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Bao Phuong Vinh needs to defend up to 80 points at the 2024 World Championship (scheduled to be held in Binh Thuan in September).
No response from the world and Asia yet
With the "ban" from ACBS, the 3-cushion carom billiards tournament hosted by Vietnam in Binh Thuan in September, the World Championship, is also likely to be affected. Accordingly, VBSF has also sent a letter to the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) and ACBS to ask for opinions on whether this penalty will affect the organization of the 2024 World Championship in Binh Thuan and the competition of Vietnamese athletes. It is known that so far, ASBC and IBSF have not yet responded.
If the ban is extended to UMB tournaments such as the World Cup and World Championship, this will greatly affect the journey to conquer the 3-cushion carom billiards village of Vietnam's top players today such as Tran Quyet Chien, Bao Phuong Vinh, Chiem Hong Thai, Tran Thanh Luc... Especially Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh, the two players need to protect their scores and rankings, having won the runner-up and champion positions at the 2023 World Championship (in Ankara, Türkiye).
