During the fishing season, large-sized sea beetles (1-2 kg each) are sold at expensive prices, up to 1.5 million VND per kg, an increase of 20% over the same period last year.
Wanting to buy two large sea beetles, Mr. Hoang in District 5 said he had to ask at four stores to find a place that sold products weighing 1.5-2 kg each.
"There are quite a lot of 500 grams of ones, but the ones with large weight are very limited and not easy to buy, so each kilo costs up to 1.5 million VND. The price is high, but their meat is firmer and sweeter than the small ones, so I still buy them," said Mr. Hoang.
Also fond of sea bugs, Ms. Lan Anh in District 8, said that before she was afraid of their shape, but when she ate them, she felt that their meat was more delicious than lobster. "The roe of sea bugs is very fatty. Therefore, even though the price is the same as that of green lobster, I still choose this type to enjoy every time it is in season," she said.

Mr. Thanh, the owner of a seafood shop on Xa Lo Ha Noi (Thu Duc City), said that sea bugs are very popular, so the shipment of more than a dozen that arrived the day before was sold out within the day. Sea bugs weighing 2 kg and selling for 3 million VND were still bought by gourmets as soon as he put them up for sale.
Similarly, according to Anh Vu - manager of a seafood chain in District 7, sea cucumbers have an ugly appearance but are among the best sellers at the store. Each time the store imports about 10-12 of them (over 1 kg), it is still not enough to meet the needs of customers.

VnExpress 's records also show that on the market, sea sponges are sold by stores at common prices ranging from 600,000 VND to 1.5 million VND per kilogram depending on size. However, most stores only have sizes under 1 kg each. Sea sponges of 1-2 kg each are rare, customers who want to eat them must order in advance and wait quite a long time even during the main season.
Sea sponges are seafood that are completely exploited in nature, not farmed. Living on the deep seabed, the flesh inside the sea sponge is chewy, firm, sweet and fatty.
