In order to affirm its long-term commitment to promoting safe digital transformation in Vietnam, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05) under the Ministry of Public Security has officially announced its cooperation with Google Vietnam to launch the campaign "Preventing online fraud - Safer with the Ministry of Public Security and Google".
Trillions of dong in damage due to online fraud
According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Security, in 2024, more than 6,000 cases related to online fraud were detected, causing losses of more than 12,000 billion VND. A recent survey showed that about 70% of Vietnamese people have received at least one fraudulent call or text message each month.
These alarming figures raise an urgent need to raise awareness and disseminate cyber security knowledge to all classes of people, in order to strengthen the safety foundation for a rapidly developing digital society.
The Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention has identified seven common forms of fraud, including: impersonatingeducational institutions; impersonating to recover defrauded capital; service payment fraud; fake sales and travel transactions; impersonating law enforcement officers; emotional fraud to appropriate property; and investment on fake platforms.
“Raising awareness is a key factor in preventing and combating online fraud. To achieve this, it requires the coordinated participation of all parties, especially large technology companies operating in Vietnam,” said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention.
Investing in technology to protect Vietnamese users
Recognizing the growing threat of online fraud, Mr. Marc Woo, General Director of Google Vietnam, emphasized that Google is committed to leveraging technology to deal with these alarming challenges.
According to Google, in Vietnam alone, the Google Play Protect system has detected and blocked more than 4.5 million installations of applications suspected of containing malware, installed on more than 1 million Android devices.
In addition to technical support, Google also continuously deploys digital education programs in Vietnam, such as "I'm safer with Google" and "Safe online, happy life" for children and the elderly.
Most recently, in late 2024, the company partnered with the Department of Information Security ( Ministry of Information and Communications ) to launch the “Official Government App” initiative. This initiative aims to authenticate state software and prevent application counterfeiting.

Action for a safe cyberspace
The latest campaign launched on June 26 is called “Preventing online fraud - Safer with the Ministry of Public Security and Google”. will launch a series of eight educational videos, each one minute long, produced by experts from Google and A05. These videos will help people clearly identify common scam methods and tricks, while providing practical prevention tools.
Raising awareness is a key factor in preventing and combating online fraud. To achieve this, it requires the coordinated participation of all parties, especially large technology enterprises operating in Vietnam.
