At 3:45 p.m. on June 23, officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 Command successfully rescued the Kien Giang fishing boat, registration number KG 1725 TS, from the stranded location.

Earlier, at around 5:30 a.m., the KG 1725 TS ship was anchored in An Thoi Bay, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province when suddenly a thunderstorm, strong winds, and large waves broke the anchor rope, the ship drifted ashore and ran aground. Facing the risk of the ship being capsized by the waves, the ship owner contacted the Naval Region 5 Command for emergency rescue.

Upon receiving the information, at 1:00 p.m., the Naval Region 5 Command dispatched Ship 470, Squadron 512, Brigade 127, and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to quickly set up ropes and deploy rescue plans.

After more than 2 hours of active rescue, officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 Command were able to get the fishing boat out of the stranded area.

The ship KG 1725 TS is captained by Mr. Lu Van Quan, born in 1989, residing in Quarter 5, An Thoi Ward, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province. There are 3 crew members on board working as trawlers.

In recent years, many cases of fishermen in distress have been promptly rescued by officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5. Officers and soldiers of the Region have also done a good job of mass mobilization, helping people prevent coastal erosion, fire and explosion, and forest fires; promoting sea and island issues and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; effectively implementing the program "Vietnam Navy as a support for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea" and the activity "Navy sponsors fishermen's children", contributing to building a solid "people's heart position" at sea.
