The Ministry of Planning and Investment and the General Administration of International Development Cooperation of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding on promoting development cooperation projects in the social and people's livelihood fields.

Within the framework of the working trip, on August 19, 2024, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung and Director General of the General Administration for International Development Cooperation of China La Chieu Huy signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on promoting development cooperation projects in the social and people's livelihood fields between the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the General Administration for International Development Cooperation of China".

The Memorandum of Understanding aims to concretize the common perception of the leaders of the two Parties and States on promoting economic cooperation, including development cooperation, and implementing the Global Development Initiative. Accordingly, the two sides agreed to research and implement projects in the social and people's livelihood fields to support the improvement of socio-economic conditions, thereby improving the lives of people, especially in mountainous areas, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas.

Based on the Memorandum of Understanding, in the coming time, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the General Administration of International Development Cooperation of China will carry out specific tasks to effectively implement projects using the Chinese Government's aid to the Vietnamese Government, and aid projects within the framework of the Global Development Initiative. In the immediate future, the two sides will focus on implementing projects using the 600 million yuan aid provided by the Chinese Government to the Vietnamese Government.

According to a report by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, as of July 20, 2024, the total foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam reached more than 18 billion USD, an increase of 10.9% over the same period. FDI implemented in Vietnam in the first 7 months of 2024 is estimated at 12.55 billion USD, an increase of 8.4% over the same period last year. Thus, both registered and implemented investment capital in the 7 months continued to increase over the same period. In terms of the number of newly licensed projects, in the first 7 months of 2024, China is leading with a total of 540 newly licensed projects, with a total newly registered capital estimated at 1,220 million USD.
