General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, recently sent invitations to the Ministers of National Defense of 8 countries (Russia, China, Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan) to attend the celebration; at the same time, invited 5 countries (Russia, China, Laos, Cambodia, Belarus) to send forces to participate in the parade at the celebration.
At the regular press conference this afternoon, reporters asked the Foreign Ministry spokesman to explain why the Vietnamese Army invited these countries and the significance of the countries sending forces to participate in the parade.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that the August Revolution was a momentous event, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The success of the August Revolution strongly encouraged the national liberation movement for colonial countries around the world.
"This year's National Day celebration on September 2 once again affirms that great significance, to honor the achievements of the Vietnamese people in the struggles for national liberation, national reunification, national construction and defense, as well as the renovation process to have a Vietnam that is entering the era of rising up and developing strongly like today," the spokesperson stated.

The celebration is also an occasion to express gratitude for the support and assistance of international friends and progressive people around the world - an important factor contributing to the success of the August Revolution in the past and Vietnam today.
The spokesperson said that on this occasion, Vietnam wishes to join international friends in honoring the everlasting values of independence and freedom. With that special significance, Vietnam has recently sent an invitation to international friends to share the joy on this occasion.
The Vietnamese Minister of National Defense has sent invitations to defense ministers of other countries, including those traditionally friendly with Vietnam, to attend the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2; and to send forces to participate in the parade at the celebration.
"These activities demonstrate the friendship, solidarity and attachment between the Vietnamese people and army with friendly countries; at the same time, affirm the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification, being a friend and reliable partner with all countries," Ms. Hang expressed.
At a meeting with press agencies on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the General Staff's tradition day (September 7, 1945), General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense, said that this year's National Day parade had the full participation of all forces, including marching groups on land, motorized forces, in the air and on water.
As planned, the celebration will take place at 6:30 a.m. on September 2 at Ba Dinh Square and some central streets of Hanoi. About 30,000 people are expected to attend (not including the parade and marching forces).
The specific program of the celebration, parade, and march includes: Traditional torch procession; Flag salute ceremony; announcement of reason, introduction of delegates; speeches by Party and State leaders; parade program; and concluding art performance.
To prepare for the celebration, parade, and march, there will be a preliminary rehearsal at 9:00 p.m. on August 27 (reserve for August 28); a general rehearsal at 7:00 a.m. on August 30 (reserve for August 31).
