Appointment of the Director of Can Tho University

On May 25th, Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son signed a decision appointing Associate Professor Dr. Tran Trung Tinh as Director of Can Tho University.

According to information from Can Tho University, Associate Professor Tran Trung Tinh graduated from Can Tho University in 1997, and subsequently participated in a training program in the Netherlands. In 2004, he obtained his master's degree, and in 2007, his doctorate from Gyeongsang National University (South Korea). In 2013, he was recognized as having met the standards for the title of Associate Professor.

During his time at Can Tho University, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Trung Tinh held many important management positions such as Head of the Electrical Engineering Department and Deputy Head of the Faculty of Technology (now the Polytechnic University).

From July 2012 to November 2023, he served as Vice Rector of Can Tho University. From December 2023 to May 2026, he has been the Rector of Can Tho University until now.

Previously, in July 2025, the Prime Minister issued a decision to transform Can Tho University into Can Tho University.

Over more than 59 years of construction and development, Can Tho University has been organized to provide multidisciplinary and multi-field training with 121 undergraduate programs, 59 postgraduate programs, and 24 doctoral programs.

The university has a training scale of over 47,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The percentage of faculty members with doctoral degrees reaches 58.5%, with 24 professors and 182 associate professors.

According to the roadmap for the 2025-2026 academic year, Can Tho University will have 6 member schools, including: the Polytechnic School, the School of Information Technology and Communications, the School of Economics , the School of Agriculture, the School of Education, and the School of Fisheries. In addition, there are 10 faculties, 3 research institutes, and 1 High School for Teacher Training.

For the 2026 academic year, Can Tho University plans to recruit 12,000 students. The total number of programs offered is 127, including 108 regular programs, 2 advanced programs, and 13 high-quality programs.

The roadmap to 2027 includes the establishment of the School of Political Science, Social Sciences and Humanities; the School of Natural Sciences; and the School of Environment and Natural Resources.
