The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recommends that localities rectify slaughter activities.

(DN) – On June 4, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued Document No. 2800/BNNMT-CNTY to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities requesting to rectify the management of slaughter activities and the process of controlling animal slaughter to ensure disease safety and food safety.

Recently, the media has continuously reported on the slaughter of sick pigs, dead pigs, pigs with infectious diseases... to sell to animal product processing and trading establishments.

To end violations in management and control of slaughter in localities, ensure effectiveness and efficiency in ensuring food safety and preventing animal diseases, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to direct relevant departments, branches, sectors, and local veterinary agencies to urgently implement a number of contents.

Specifically, strictly implement the provisions of veterinary law and directive documents issued by the Politburo , Secretariat, National Assembly, Government and Prime Minister, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on veterinary management, quarantine, slaughter control, ensuring food safety and disease safety in livestock farming.

Strengthen inspection and surprise checks on veterinary and food safety at animal slaughterhouses; immediately rectify and strictly handle the slaughter of sick pigs, pigs that died from epidemics and were not controlled by veterinary staff according to local regulations.

Suspend operations of animal slaughterhouses that are not licensed to operate, do not ensure veterinary hygiene and food safety conditions, and use prohibited chemicals and additives in slaughtering.

Direct the Department of Agriculture and Environment to strictly implement the slaughter control process at slaughterhouses; develop and implement coordination regulations between the government and functional forces in the management of animal slaughter activities; regularly exchange information and coordinate in a timely manner to handle cases related to animal transportation, slaughter, and food safety for livestock and poultry meat.

Organize propaganda and mobilization to raise awareness and responsibility in complying with and practicing good slaughtering, preliminary processing and processing procedures to ensure veterinary hygiene and food safety. At the same time, propagate to raise awareness among consumers, not to use animal products of unknown origin, not ensuring veterinary hygiene and food safety.

Dong Nai is the livestock capital of the country with a total herd of more than 1.9 million pigs and a total herd of nearly 19.8 million chickens. The Provincial People's Committee has approved the network of concentrated animal slaughterhouses in Dong Nai province until 2025, with a vision to 2030 with 56 concentrated slaughterhouses meeting safety standards. To date, the province has built 43 slaughterhouses.

The province pays great attention to directing and handling unlicensed slaughterhouses of livestock and poultry in the area. The provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment has established an interdisciplinary team to inspect the situation of unlicensed slaughter; transportation and trading of animals and animal products that do not ensure veterinary hygiene and food safety in the province.
