Adding more quality human resources to the traditional medicine industry

On the morning of August 21, the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine held a closing ceremony and awarded diplomas to 775 new traditional medicine doctors, medical doctors and pharmacists for the 2024-2025 academic year. This year, the Academy has 25 excellent graduates, of which 1 passed the Pediatric residency exam at VinUni University.

Adding 775 new traditional medicine doctors, medical doctors and pharmacists to the health sector

Implementing the 2019 enrollment plan for traditional medicine and university-level medicine, the 2020 enrollment plan for university-level pharmacy, the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine has enrolled: 404 students in traditional medicine; 194 students in medicine; 177 students in pharmacy.

With the goal of training high-quality medical human resources to meet the requirements of medical facilities, the Academy has constantly innovated its training programs, teaching methods, and student assessment methods according to output standards and professional competency standards.

Over the years, the Academy has always received attention and support from medical facilities from central to local levels, medical facilities of the Public Security, Military, medical universities, especially hospitals in the Hanoi area in training.

As a medical human resource training facility, in addition to education and vocational training, the Academy also always pays attention to training professional ethics, communication skills, and behavior for students. Through clinical internships, community internships, and professional internships, many students have proactively studied to acquire knowledge, practice their professional skills, and communication skills, and have been highly appreciated by medical facilities for their learning awareness as well as affirming the training quality of the Academy.

The students have always made efforts, strived to study and practice, overcoming all difficulties to complete the course well. After the process of studying and practicing, up to now: The medical faculty has 194 graduates, of which: Excellent: 7 (3.6%); Fair: 138 (71.1%); Average: 49 (25.3%); the traditional medicine faculty has 404 graduates, of which: Excellent: 10 (2.5%); Fair: 246 (60.9%); Average: 148 (36.6%); the pharmacy faculty has 177 graduates, of which: Excellent: 8 (4.5%); Fair: 133 (75.1%); Average: 36 (20.4%).

In his congratulatory speech to the new doctors and pharmacists, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Director of the Academy, said that today's graduates have gone through the most challenging study period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Every year, to improve and enhance practical skills, the Academy sends traditional medicine students to traditional medicine hospitals across the country. This year is the first year the Academy has gone south to improve the Academy’s network of traditional medicine practice hospitals. The Academy’s student group received practical guidance from the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Medicine Hospital.

"The teachers of the Academy were very moved to see the students grow up, have good practice results and be highly appreciated by the hospital. This is a testament to the ability of the students of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine to adapt well to environments across the country, affirming the prestige of the Academy," the Academy's Director said emotionally.

The course has selected 25 students with excellent academic and training achievements. Among them, student Ngo Hai An, majoring in medicine, was admitted to the Pediatrics residency program at VinUni University - one of the most competitive majors.

Speaking emotionally at the graduation ceremony, Hai An expressed her luck in studying at the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, not only gaining knowledge but also developing herself comprehensively.

The Academy's leadership hopes that the students will continue to develop their role as alumni and maintain close connections with their teachers and the school.

Continue to support students to pass the professional certification exam

Director of the Academy Nguyen Quoc Huy said that the Academy is preparing to build question banks so that students can practice for the exam when they will have to take the national professional competency assessment exam from January 2027 (according to the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment in 2023).

"The Academy is being supported by experts from the HAIVN organization in Vietnam of Harvard University, USA to prepare these test sets and mock exams. As a member of the National Medical Council, I and the Academy pledge to do our best to prepare you and the Academy's students to pass this important exam even after you have graduated. The Academy will establish a unit to support you and will notify you promptly," Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy expressed.

For the students with the highest scores graduating this year and former students of the Academy who are studying for residency or master's degree at Hanoi Medical University, the Academy has also announced preferential policies to invite them to the Academy to become lecturers.

"The Academy hopes that you will continue to develop your role as alumni and students, maintaining close connections with teachers and the school; providing feedback and contributing ideas so that the Academy can continue to improve and enhance the quality of training," the Academy Director shared.
