The Ministry of Finance said that in recent days, the case of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan's insurance purchase reflecting on the conclusion of an insurance contract with MVI Life Insurance Company Limited (MVI Company) has received public attention.
Regarding this issue, on April 10, the Ministry of Finance sent an official dispatch to MVI Company requesting to strengthen control of the company's operations.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance requested MVI Life Insurance Company Limited to review information on the insurance contract signed with Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan and the insurance agent's consulting process; the disclosure of information to customers when changing investors and changing business names in accordance with the provisions of law; customer service and care for valid insurance contracts.
MVI Life Insurance Company Limited is responsible for reporting the results of the implementation of the above contents to the Department of Insurance Management and Supervision on April 11, 2023.
The Ministry of Finance requested a report on the insurance purchase of actress Ngoc Lan.
In addition, conduct inspections and supervise the implementation of insurance agency contracts, evaluate the quality of insurance agent consultation and product introduction. Require agents to consult, introduce, and sell insurance products, and provide complete and accurate information about insurance products of insurance companies to insurance buyers.
Consider the liability of insurance agents in case of violation of legal provisions in performing activities authorized by insurance enterprises.
The document also requested the company to proactively work and resolve customer complaints and provide objective and transparent information to news agencies and the press about the incident.
Earlier, on the evening of April 7, actress Ngoc Lan cried as she shared her story on livestream. Ngoc Lan said that she and her son have insurance with a cost of 700 million VND/year.
The actress paid for insurance a few years ago, hoping to receive nearly 10 billion VND in principal and interest after 10 years, according to the consultant. However, after some problems arose, she went to the insurance company and realized that she had been scammed during the contract process.
Specifically, Ngoc Lan cried and said that the contract she signed was for 74 years, and her son was for 42 years, not 10 years as the consultant said. In addition, because the contract also included many other insurances, the amount she could receive would be much less than expected.
Sharing this story, Ngoc Lan admitted that part of the fault was her own for not reading the 100-page contract carefully before signing. At the same time, she also warned everyone to be careful and research thoroughly before buying an insurance contract .
