Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said that according to the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (Power Plan VIII), by 2030, the total power capacity must reach nearly twice the current system capacity. However, according to the plan, it is forecasted that some large power source projects are likely to be behind schedule.

In addition, in recent times, ministries, branches, provinces and Vietnam Electricity Group have made great efforts to urgently implement power grid projects and have achieved certain results. Specifically, the synchronous power grid projects to release capacity of Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant projects have had positive changes in the approval, planning supplementation and site clearance work.

In response to the Prime Minister's request, the State Steering Committee for important national programs, works and projects in the energy sector will focus on directing EVN to mobilize resources to invest in large-capacity transmission systems and large-scale power projects to increase the country's supply. In addition, for EVN, it is necessary to amend the current Electricity Law to attract a stronger wave of private investment in transmission.

Accordingly, the Inter-regional Transmission Project is prioritized for implementation on schedule, the sooner the better. Therefore, starting today (October 17), the National Steering Committee will hold regular meetings every 2 weeks with ministries, branches and localities to promptly resolve any problems.
