Minister Tran Hong Minh: Efforts to bring Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon Expressway ahead of schedule

Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh inspected the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway, requiring the investor and contractor to be highly determined and complete the project ahead of schedule assigned by the Prime Minister.

On the afternoon of January 16, Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh inspected the construction site of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway project and praised the efforts of the investor and contractor at the construction site over the past two years.

Pay attention to progress and ensure highway quality.

The Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon Expressway Project is a national key project. Minister Tran Hong Minh requested the investor and contractor to make more efforts and determination to complete the expressway in accordance with the Prime Minister’s direction, contributing to connecting 3,000km of the North – South Expressway.

With the unfavorable weather and continuous rain over the past months, the minister shared the difficulties with the contractor. At the same time, he acknowledged the flexibility in changing the construction direction of the highway and adapting to the weather conditions.

Besides the request to concentrate equipment and construction personnel to complete the project ahead of schedule, the minister also noted that the quality of the project must be put first.

The existing problems and obstacles in construction, especially the site clearance, need to be resolved by the provinces. Avoid small problems that greatly affect the progress.

Regarding the 3,200m long tunnel No. 3 (the longest tunnel of the North-South expressway in the east) located between the two provinces of Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh, which is meeting the progress schedule, the minister requested to speed up the construction site, but must ensure the safety of people and property.

By October, the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon highway must be basically completed.

Mr. Ngo Truong Nam, General Director of Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company (contractor), reported that the construction site always maintains 50 main construction teams. Of which, there are 25 road construction teams; 18 bridge construction teams and 6 tunnel construction teams with a total of more than 1,400 machines and equipment and nearly 4,000 employees working continuously.

Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon Expressway has 3 road tunnels. Two tunnels have been opened, the remaining tunnel has reached 73% progress. It is expected that the tunnel will be opened by April 30. Of the 77 bridges on the route, 39 have had their girders installed.

After 2 years of construction, the cumulative project construction output reached 7,200/13,343 billion VND of construction and installation capital. The disbursement of capital allocated for 2024 reached over 99%.

Speed up, exceed the progress assigned by the Prime Minister

Mr. Le Thang, Director of Project Management Board 2 (investor), said that the project progress is on schedule. The investor coordinates and urges the contractor to make efforts to complete ahead of schedule.

“Materials and equipment are ready. When the weather is sunny, we will speed up construction of the entire project, ensuring the completion of the project as directed by the Prime Minister at the launching ceremony of the 500-day emulation competition to complete the North-South Expressway,” Mr. Thang affirmed.

After listening to the report, Minister Tran Hong Minh emphasized that the project is very important in the North-South expressway system in the East, connecting the expressway section that has been put into operation and the section under construction. The desire to complete the project soon to extend the North-South expressway is not only at the government level, but also among the people.

“The remaining volume is not much, and time is urgent. Investors and contractors need to focus on machinery and personnel to speed up construction, ensuring that the project is basically completed by October. The Prime Minister requested that it be completed by the end of the year, we must strive to exceed the assigned progress,” Minister Tran Hong Minh directed.

On the occasion of the New Year, Minister Tran Hong Minh gave gifts, encouraged and shared with the contractors' workers and sent New Year wishes to all the workers working day and night at the construction site.
