Arsenal's 70 million euro blockbuster criticized

Premier League legend Roy Keane believes Eberechi Eze must improve the consistency of his performances now that he has joined Arsenal.

Eberechi Eze did not play well as England beat Andorra 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup European qualifiers.

Eze is facing huge pressure following his blockbuster €70m (£67.5m) move to Arsenal this summer. Eze played poorly in England's hard-fought 2-0 win over Andorra in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers early on September 7.

Despite being favored by coach Tuchel to start, playing freely in the "number 10" role, Eze left a lackluster impression against a weak opponent. Former MU midfielder Roy Keane was not satisfied with Eze's performance. He said: "What worries me when talking about players like this is that Eze is only average. For him, after coming to Arsenal, average is not enough. Eze needs to set a higher standard than that."

Former Arsenal legend Ian Wright also commented: “There were moments where Eze just stood there and received the ball. He had chances, but it was disappointing that he couldn’t do better.” England manager Thomas Tuchel seemed to agree with Keane’s assessment of the match.

“We missed the moments to accelerate and finish the game,” Tuchel said. “Maybe Eze didn’t have the best day as a No. 10. In training he makes very good decisions, but in the game today he struggled a bit.”
