Vietnam men's volleyball team unexpectedly has a chance to win the SEA V.League after just one win over Thailand - Photo: AVC
Despite being underestimated, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team made a surprise when they defeated Thailand 3-1 in the first round of SEA V.League 2025 on the evening of July 11. Coach Tran Dinh Tien's team had a good match, improving many weaknesses to open up victory.
With this result, the Vietnamese team still gained many advantages. Up to now, Thailand and Vietnam are the only two teams that have played all 3 matches of the first stage of SEA V.League this year, both with 2 wins and 1 loss. The Vietnamese team lost to the Philippines (0-3), before defeating Cambodia (3-0) and Thailand (3-1).
Meanwhile, Thailand had two wins against Indonesia (3-1) and the Philippines (3-0), before losing to the Vietnamese men's volleyball team (1-3). Thanks to that, both teams got 6 points.
Thailand with 7 wins and 4 losses temporarily tops the table, while Vietnam (6 wins and 4 losses) is in second place. This is a somewhat surprising result, because coach Tran Dinh Tien's team is not highly regarded. Especially after the humiliating defeat to the Philippines, no one thought they would rise to this ranking.

Besides climbing to 2nd place in SEA V.League, Vietnam men's volleyball team also significantly improved its ranking on the world rankings.
The 3-1 victory over Thailand helped the team gain 6.18 points, climbing to 58th place, just 1 place below Thailand. Before the tournament, the Vietnamese team was ranked 61st.
Tomorrow (July 12), Coach Tran Dinh Tien's team will have the final match in the first round of SEA V.League against strong opponent Indonesia. If they continue to create surprises, they have a great chance to win a round of the tournament for the first time.
