Before this match, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team had a losing streak of 7 matches in the SEA V.League. 6 of these came in the 2024 tournament, while the remaining match was against the Philippines on July 9.
Although Cambodia rarely competes internationally, they are still a strong team in Southeast Asia. They have a large team of athletes and are the current runner-up of the SEA Games. Therefore, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team did not have an easy start.
They entered the first set with a 4-1 lead but were then dragged into a dramatic point-by-point chase. Cambodia, with two main attackers both over 1.95m tall, Koun Mom and Voeurn Veasna, showed impressive attacking ability.
After 30 minutes, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team was able to win narrowly 25-23.
In set 2, it was still a difficult match for coach Tran Dinh Tien's team. However, they did well in defense thanks to Cambodia's not-so-fast deployment speed.
On the offensive side, Ngoc Thuan continued to shoulder the responsibility of creating the team's score to win 25-20.
In set 3, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team took the initiative for most of the time. In the final stage, they were a bit careless and let Cambodia narrow the gap. But Duy Tuyen's quick smash at position 3 brought the decisive point 25-21, thereby helping the Vietnamese men's volleyball team win.
This is the first victory of coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team in the SEA V.League since 2023. On July 11, they will have an extremely difficult match against the defending champion Thailand.
