Karaoke is a popular form of entertainment, especially in the rural areas of the Mekong Delta. However, the high-powered speakers and loud volume can disturb those around, particularly during periods when many students are preparing for important exams.
Ms. Nhung's karaoke cafe primarily caters to laborers, and her income each evening is negligible. However, in response to the local campaign to reduce noise during exam season, she spent over 60 million VND to install a soundproofing system.

Since the beginning of May, the Mo Cay commune authorities have encouraged residents and approximately 20 karaoke bars and singing venues in the area to adjust their volume and limit singing during peak hours to help students concentrate on exam preparation. Beyond written directives, cultural officials, police, and village officials have gone to each household to encourage voluntary participation and cooperation.
No more sleepless afternoons due to the noise of portable loudspeakers, or deafening evenings from high-powered karaoke systems. Diệu Anh and hundreds of other students in Mỏ Cày commune now have a quiet learning environment to focus their energy on the exam season.

"This care and support may seem small, but it's incredibly encouraging for us. I thank everyone for accompanying us students during this year's exam season," Diệu Anh shared.
There was no imposition, no rigid sanctions. The change came from a gentle, approachable approach and the voluntary spirit of the people.
Simply lowering the volume or cutting back on a singing session has created a positive learning environment for students during exam season. A cultured way of life in the community is forming from small acts of consideration and sharing, starting with thinking of others.
