Many transportation projects in Ho Chi Minh City that had been stalled for years due to land acquisition issues have gradually been completed and put into operation, serving the transportation needs of the people to the fullest extent.

Travel and transportation are more convenient.

On New Year's Day 2025, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dat, a container truck driver for a company in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, was delighted that transporting goods on Nguyen Van Linh Street was much easier now that the underpass at the intersection with Nguyen Huu Tho Street was open to traffic in both directions.

The opening of the underpass at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection has helped reduce traffic pressure on the route.

"This area used to be very congested, sometimes for hours. The city started building an underpass, but the work dragged on for two years, making things even harder for drivers. Now that it's open, it's much more convenient for vehicles traveling from the Mekong Delta to Cat Lai," said Mr. Dat.

Mr. Lam Dai Vinh, Director of Lam Vinh Transport Company, said that traffic congestion on major gateway routes like Nguyen Van Linh caused significant losses for businesses. "After the underpass opened, there is no more congestion. Drivers can now make two trips a day, helping to reduce transportation costs," Mr. Vinh said.

On the last day of 2024, Ho Chi Minh City also put into operation the Phuoc Long Bridge, a section of National Highway 50 (the section from Trinh Quang Nghi Street to the intersection of the parallel road and National Highway 50, Binh Chanh District).

Prior to that, from mid-2024, the Rach Dia bridge in Nha Be district was also completed, helping to improve the transportation landscape in the southern part of the city to some extent.

Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment Management Board for Transportation Projects (Transportation Board), said that from now until before the Lunar New Year, approximately 10 projects will be completed, including: Tan Quy - Tan Quy Bridge, Ba Hom Bridge, one branch of Tang Long Bridge, Duong Quang Ham Street (Go Vap District), Hoang Hoa Tham Street, the road connecting Trong Quoc and Hoang Cong Hoa (Tan Binh District), Luong Dinh Cua Street, the section from Nguyen Hoang to Tran Nao, two branches of Ba Giat Bridge (Thu Duc District), one branch of An Phu intersection, and the Hang Bang Canal section (District 5)...

"These projects may not require a large amount of investment capital, but they are of great significance in serving the people's transportation needs and facilitating the flow of goods," Mr. Phuc said.

Completed numerous regional connectivity projects.

While 2024 was the year for completing inner-city transportation infrastructure, 2025 will be the year of inter-regional connectivity projects. First is the Nhon Trach bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai, which will be completed and put into operation on April 30th.

To ensure the Nhon Trach bridge is connected to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway in time, the Transport Department is urging contractors to expedite the construction of package XL1 of the Ring Road 3 project through Thu Duc.

The 14.7km elevated section of Ring Road 3 from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway to the Tan Van interchange will be completed by the end of 2025. At that time, vehicles from Binh Duong , Thu Duc, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, etc., will be able to travel along Ring Road 3 to Long Thanh Airport and Vung Tau more easily.

At the launch event for the 365-day campaign to complete the Ring Road 3 through Ho Chi Minh City on December 30th, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, requested the investor and contractors to revise the schedule to meet the set plan. Accelerating the progress is an urgent task to connect with Long Thanh Airport, as the project's completion date has been pushed forward to December 31st, 2025.

Meanwhile, the two important interchanges, An Phu and My Thuy, will be fully completed in 2025.

To the west, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway will operate a 22km section from Trung Luong Expressway (the section passing through Ben Luc) to Nguyen Huu Tho Street (Nha Be). This is an important route for connecting with Hiep Phuoc Port.

The upgrade project for National Highway 50 also fully utilizes the route, providing convenient access to Tien Giang province.

Expedite the implementation of projects under specific policies.

2025 is also the year for implementing many projects under the specific policies of Resolution 98 of the National Assembly.

First, the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway will be started. Following that are projects to upgrade and expand national highways at the city's gateways, such as National Highways 1, 13, 22, the North-South arterial road, and the Binh Tien bridge and road.

Mr. Tran Quang Lam, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, said that they have organized a conference to gather opinions from investors, adjusted policies to submit to the city for promulgation, and then organized a bidding process to select the most suitable investor for each project.

In addition, another important project, the Ring Road 4, has also been submitted to the National Assembly for investment approval with many specific policies. This includes the implementation of two sections of Ring Road 2, and the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh and Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan expressways.

Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Transport Department, said that with the experience gained in land clearance work, especially with the Ring Road 3 project, which will be applied to many upcoming projects, the land clearance progress will be better, and the project implementation time will be on schedule.

According to economic expert Dr. Tran Du Lich, the Department of Transport needs to further expedite procedures and promptly implement projects in accordance with specific policies.

"The resolution was issued two years ago, the pilot program will last five years, and the first project will only start construction at the end of 2025, meaning we have missed many opportunities. I propose a construction plan that is as fast and efficient as possible," Mr. Lich said.
