"The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has appointed Carlo Ancelotti as the new head coach of the national team. The Italian tactician will officially start his job on May 26, right after the end of the season with Real Madrid," wrote The Athletic .
At the age of 65, Ancelotti becomes the first foreign coach in history to lead the Brazilian men's team. He will begin his tenure in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, with the goal of leading the Selecao to win the gold cup for the 6th time, an unprecedented feat in the history of world football.
Despite having one year left on his contract with Real Madrid, Ancelotti reached an agreement to leave the Santiago Bernabeu after successful negotiations between the parties. CBF representative Diego Fernandes arranged the deal.
Ancelotti has signed a contract until the end of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. He will replace coach Dorival Junior, who was fired in March after 14 months in charge. Ancelotti's debut for Brazil is scheduled for June 6, against Ecuador in the South American World Cup qualifiers.
Ancelotti returned to Los Blancos in 2021, helping the club win two more La Liga titles, as well as lifting the Champions League trophy three times over two spells. However, Real have been in decline this season. The club was eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals by Arsenal, lost to Barca in the Copa del Rey final, and is currently seven points behind its arch-rivals in the La Liga race.
