UOL said Jorge Jesus, head coach of Al Hilal, is the strongest candidate to lead the Brazilian team after Mr. Dorival Junior was fired.

The contract between Mr. Jesus and Al Hilal expires at the end of June. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is willing to pay about 2.5 million euros to release this coach from his contract and bring him back to lead the national team in May.

Jorge Jesus is a familiar name having previously coached Benfica and Sporting CP. He also made a significant mark in Brazil when he coached Flamengo from 2019 to 2020, helping the team win many titles. Since 2023, he has returned to Al Hilal to work in the SPL.

With the 2026 World Cup approaching, the CBF wants to appoint a new coach quickly to have more time to prepare. The federation could sign a short-term contract with Jesus until the end of the 2026 World Cup, then re-evaluate the results. The decision now depends on Mr. Jesus.

Before Jesus, CBF considered Carlo Ancelotti as the number one candidate. However, the Italian coach once admitted that he wanted to stay with Real Madrid until he retired. President Florentino Perez also assured that Ancelotti's head coach position was completely secure.

In case Ancelotti leaves, Real Madrid are targeting Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso as a replacement.
