Warm, affectionate
One weekend in mid-July, the small house of Mrs. Tran Thi Thuyen (83 years old, wife of martyr Nguyen Thanh Ha), in Ha Son village, Nam Ba Don commune, was bustling with laughter, different from usual. Mrs. Thuyen's family was one of the addresses of martyrs' relatives chosen by the Party Committee and mass organizations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune to organize the program "Gratitude Meal".
From early morning, assigned groups were present at families of policy beneficiaries and meritorious people to clean up gardens, tidy up houses, and clean the altars of heroic martyrs. Female members went to the market together, chose fresh food, then rolled up their sleeves to cook, and listened to the grandmothers and mothers tell stories in a bustling, warm, family-friendly atmosphere.
At the age of “near death”, Mrs. Thuyen was exhausted in bed due to the change in weather these past few days. But today, she was very happy, chatting animatedly with the commune officials all morning. Mrs. Thuyen smiled and confided that in the past few days, her daughter-in-law who lived with her had to go far away to take care of her grandchild, so she was alone. This morning, a group of commune officials came to visit, some were busy cleaning the garden and house, some were going to the market to cook. The neighbors saw this and also came over to help, the voices and laughter were lively. It had been a long time since the house had been so crowded.
With both hands nimbly picking up a bunch of fresh vegetables bought at the early morning market, Ms. Pham Thi My Linh, Secretary of the Youth Union of Nam Ba Don commune, and a group of members listened to Ms. Thuyen tell stories about her family and her husband who sacrificed for the country. Occasionally, laughter rang out after a witty joke. Ms. Linh shared that thanks to the "Gratitude Meal" program, young people like us have the opportunity to show our care, listen to better understand and sympathize with families of policy beneficiaries and people with meritorious services. Through that, we are more imbued with gratitude.
By noon, the work was completed, and incense sticks were respectfully offered to the altars of the heroic martyrs by the cadres, union members, and association members. A delicious meal was also served in a joyful and warm atmosphere among the commune cadres and the martyrs' relatives.
In Bieu Le village, Nam Ba Don commune, upon hearing that the commune was organizing a "Gratitude Meal" program, the daughters and sons-in-law of Ms. Hoang Thi Vang (born in 1943) came to join in the fun. Ms. Vang's father and husband were martyrs, her daughters were married far away so she lived alone. Sharing a meal with the commune officials, especially the union members and young people, Ms. Vang was moved to share that today was a happy day, and she was very grateful to the commune officials for their concern... Looking at the meal with all the dishes, she felt full even before eating because it was filled with the sincerity and warmth of today's young generation towards families with meritorious services.
Towards the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, Nam Ba Don commune organized many delegations to visit, encourage and give gifts to policy households in the commune. In addition, the Front and mass organizations of Nam Ba Don commune also organized many practical activities such as offering incense, flowers, cleaning up martyrs' cemeteries, holding gratitude talks..., said Tran Xuan Quang, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Ba Don commune. |
Connect and spread love
Merged from 5 communes of Quang Son, Quang Thuy, Quang Tan, Quang Trung and Quang Tien, the new commune of Nam Ba Don has nearly 1,000 people who are policy beneficiaries and people with revolutionary contributions. The "gratitude meal" is part of a series of activities to celebrate War Invalids and Martyrs Day of Nam Ba Don commune.
Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nam Ba Don Commune, Hoang Chi Tinh, said that with the large number of meritorious people and policy families in the newly established commune, the organization of the "Gratitude Meal" program encountered financial difficulties. However, through mobilization, the program received sharing and support from philanthropists and local people.
