"DRAG" THE PLAYER TO CLASS THROUGH THE JUNGLE

His whole body was covered in mud after a trek through the forest and up the mountain to Axur village (Dang commune, Tay Giang district, Quang Nam ) to "pull" student Arat Quang Nhat back to class. Although tired, the face of teacher Bnuoch Zoi (30 years old, Co Tu ethnic group, teacher and Head of the Youth Union of Dang commune's primary and secondary boarding school for ethnic minorities) was still radiant. After 10 years of working, for teacher Zoi, the greatest "asset" in his profession was "accumulated" from his students in the mountains.

Axur village is the hometown of Arat Quang Nhat, nearly 30 km from the school. During the rainy season, the road to the village becomes even more dangerous. "The road is not a big obstacle, but the most difficult thing is still convincing parents to let their children go back to school. We got to Nhat's house, but we had to wait until dusk, when his parents returned from the fields, to have the opportunity to sit and listen to the family's story and find out the reason," said Mr. Zoi.

After citing a few stories to help parents understand and agree to let their children return to class, Mr. Zoi turned to hug student Arat Quang Nhat, whispered in his ear, and encouraged him. It was not until dark that Mr. Zoi left the village, carrying the promise of the student's parents to bring their child back to school.

Arat Quang Nhat is not an isolated case. Because in this mountainous area, there were many students who were not persistent enough to pursue their dreams of education. Some dropped out of school, got married, and their difficult lives continued.

A few years ago, the school had nearly 10 students who were "forced" by their parents to stay home and help with housework. After connecting and finding out, the reason for the students' absence was said to be due to difficult circumstances and inadequate transportation. Determined not to let the students drop out of school, Mr. Zoi volunteered to "pull" the students to class. It took many trips through the forest and up the mountains for these campaigns to be successful. "Most of my students are Co Tu people. Their lives are still very difficult, they have to worry about food every day, so many parents do not care about education. They think that education cannot fill their stomachs, so it is difficult to penetrate into the villages," Mr. Zoi confided.

After teaching, Mr. Bnướch Zoi and his colleagues worked hard to go back to the mountains to bring students back to school. For him and many other teachers, after convincing parents and students, the greatest joy is to witness each student return to school to eat, study and live with their friends. "Happy, because our efforts have been rewarded. We see the trips back to the mountains to find students and convince parents to let their children go to class as a journey to light a fire to prevent students from dropping out of school," Mr. Zoi confided.

Last year, while studying in grade 5, Alang Thi Hoi suddenly contracted a strange disease that left her paralyzed in one leg. Out of sympathy for her good and diligent student, teacher Bnuoch Zoi went back and forth to her house, then tried to persuade her relatives to take her to the hospital for examination. Due to her family's difficult circumstances, the family did not agree. With no other choice, teacher Zoi connected to support the student's financial support during her treatment at Tay Giang District Medical Center, in order to help her return to school soon.

"Here, teachers are both teachers and parents who take care of every little thing for their students. In addition, teachers here take turns to focus on reviewing for students from 7-9 pm, both to keep students in order in their studies and to reinforce their knowledge. Students with weak academic performance will be tutored individually every day to quickly balance their knowledge," Mr. Zoi shared.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Tam, Principal of Dang Commune Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, said that for many years, Mr. Bnướch Zoi has always been a typical example of the localeducation sector with achievements in expertise and activities of the Youth Union - Young Pioneers movement. In addition, every year, Mr. Zoi also connects with the Dang Commune Association for the Promotion of Education to select scholarships for disadvantaged students and students at risk of dropping out of school to encourage and motivate them to study with peace of mind. On the other hand, he calls for tens of millions of VND from benefactors to support the scholarship fund for the school, considering giving to disadvantaged students. "Mr. Bnướch Zoi is one of the local teachers who has contributed a lot to the journey to prevent students from dropping out of school," Mr. Tam affirmed.

In the 2022-2023 school year, Mr. Bnướch Zoi is the National Team Leader and was awarded a certificate of merit by the Central Youth Union for his outstanding achievements in the Team work and children's movement. Mr. Zoi is also one of 58 outstanding teachers nationwide honored by the Central Youth Union at the "Sharing with Teachers" program in 2023.
