The event took place on December 20 with the participation and sharing of speakers who are currently working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and many guests interested in the discussion topic.

Within the framework of the event, speakers shared in-depth and comprehensive information about Vietnam's role since joining ASEAN and the country's efforts in promoting regional stability, economic development, and strengthening ASEAN cooperation.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Pham Quang Vinh, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Head of ASEAN SOM of Vietnam, said: 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Vietnam joining ASEAN. Over the past 30 years, the relationship between Vietnam and ASEAN has gone through 4 stages: From building trust, catching up with integration to getting acquainted with the ASEAN way and now building the future together, towards sustainable and substantive development goals. During this process, Vietnam and ASEAN have had many exchange activities in various fields, while affirming that Vietnam is always proactive and active in adjusting policies in line with ASEAN's vision to build a peaceful , prosperous and united region."

According to Mr. Pham Quang Vinh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, former Head of ASEAN SOM of Vietnam, with efforts to unite the community and maintain a central role in the regional structure, ASEAN's position is increasingly consolidated.

For his part, Mr. Phan Chi Thanh, former Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, shared about Vietnam Town in Udon Thani City, Udon Thani Province, Thailand. This is the first Vietnamese town model in the world, a place for exchange, trade, and introduction of Vietnamese cuisine and culture to the Thai community as well as tourists.

Mr. Thanh said that Vietnamese embassies in ASEAN countries can consider strategies or methods of operation to enhance cultural exchanges with the host country.

Speaking about the role of culture in uniting ASEAN countries, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa - Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized that over the years, Vietnam and ASEAN countries have together built an ASEAN rich in identity, in which the unique cultural features of each nation are still preserved, including cultural cooperation programs to promote art exchange and tourism development - one of the important pillars to unite the ASEAN community.

According to Director Nguyen Phuong Hoa, intra-bloc tourism is the focus in ASEAN. Every year, ASEAN welcomes more than 100 million international visitors. Countries such as Thailand, Laos and Cambodia are key markets for Vietnam and vice versa, Vietnam also sends many visitors to the above countries. ASEAN countries also regularly connect and cooperate in the tourism sector, creating many attractive tourism products.

Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, emphasized the exchange activities between Vietnam and ASEN in various fields, especially the environment with issues such as air pollution, plastic waste pollution, climate change, etc.

Sharing about notable cooperation activities in environmental protection, Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, said: Vietnam and ASEAN have had many exchange activities in different fields, notably the environment with issues such as air pollution, plastic waste pollution, climate change, etc. Vietnam has participated in many ASEAN joint working groups such as the Sustainable Cities Working Group, the Chemicals and Waste Working Group and the Sea Working Group, etc., especially cooperation in economic transformation, notably the Blue Ocean Economy Development Initiative. This is a new initiative, initiated in 2023 when Indonesia holds the role of ASEAN Chair. In 2024, in its role as ASEAN Chair, Laos will also make many efforts to promote this initiative.

“The blue economy initiative will bring opportunities for both Vietnam and ASEAN, helping to protect the environment and respond to challenges such as marine pollution, climate change, and ocean acidification,” Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan emphasized.
