On the morning of February 4, in Can Tho, in preparation for the traditional New Year of the nation - the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended New Year greetings and presented gifts to poor households, workers, laborers, homeless elderly people, and orphaned children in difficult circumstances in the area.

Also attending the event were President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang, leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, ministries, branches, central agencies and Can Tho city, and heroic Vietnamese mothers.

The Prime Minister and leaders of agencies presented 200 gifts to policy families, poor households, and families in difficult circumstances; 400 gifts to families of workers and laborers; 50 gifts to homeless elderly people and orphans in difficult circumstances. On this occasion, the Prime Minister also presented funds to 200 households (worth 10 billion VND) to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.

According to Can Tho leaders, in 2023, the City organized many practical and meaningful activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the city's founding. GRDP grew by 5.75%, with average income per capita reaching over 97 million VND.

Inheriting the nation's tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", the Party Committee and government of Can Tho have always well implemented the Party and State's policies and guidelines for people with revolutionary contributions, the "Repaying gratitude" movement, and paid attention to social security work and poverty reduction.

On the occasion of Tet this year, Can Tho has paid attention, taken good care of, and had many practical and meaningful activities for policy families, workers, poor households, and people in difficult circumstances (by the end of January 2024, the City had given away 73,902 gifts with a total value of over 74 billion VND).

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that in 2023, in the context of many difficulties and challenges, thanks to the participation of the entire political system, under the leadership of the Party, regularly and directly led by the Politburo and the Secretariat, headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the supervision and accompaniment of the National Assembly, the consensus of the people, businesses, and the support of international friends, we have synchronously, resolutely, and focusedly deployed key tasks and solutions, basically achieving the set general goals, in which all social targets were achieved and exceeded, demonstrating the good nature of our regime.

The macro economy is basically stable, inflation is under control, economic growth reaches 5.05%, among the highest in the region and the world, major balances are ensured; social security and people's lives are improved; attention is paid to developing culture as the spiritual foundation of society; prevention and fight against corruption and negativity are promoted; national defense and security are consolidated and enhanced; foreign affairs and international integration achieve comprehensive and outstanding results; the country's prestige and position and people's trust in the Party and State are consolidated and enhanced.

With the viewpoint of considering people as the center, the subject, the goal, the driving force, the resource for development; not sacrificing progress, social justice, social security to pursue mere growth... Although the country still has many difficulties, every year we still spend a large amount of resources to invest, support, ensure social security, and improve the material and spiritual life of the people.

The Prime Minister said that during this year's Tet holiday, the whole country has been implementing a campaign to ensure social security in a broad and comprehensive manner. The Prime Minister acknowledged, commended and thanked Can Tho for its achievements and results in 2023, contributing to the overall development, achievements and results of the Mekong Delta region and the whole country, contributing to the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and resolutions of Party congresses at all levels.

In 2024, the Prime Minister hopes that the Party Committee, government, army and people of Can Tho will continue to promote the revolutionary and heroic tradition, overcome difficulties and challenges, and move towards excellently completing the set goals and tasks, contributing with the whole country to excellently completing the goals and tasks set by the 13th National Party Congress. The Prime Minister noted that Can Tho must work with the whole country to maintain political stability, firmly protect independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, safety and public safety.

The Prime Minister requested localities and agencies to continue reviewing and fully implementing policies and regimes for beneficiaries, especially giving gifts to policy families, workers, laborers, people in difficult circumstances, the weak, the sick, etc. Relevant forces must ensure security, safety, and public safety, do a good job of fire prevention and fighting, medical examination and treatment, and limit traffic accidents. The Prime Minister hopes that people, especially the younger generation, will limit the use and abuse of alcohol, use alcohol responsibly during Tet, and comply with regulations related to alcohol concentration when participating in traffic.

The Prime Minister emphasized that we do all these things so that all people can have a joyful, safe, healthy, economical, and meaningful Tet holiday, so that no one can go without Tet and no one is left behind.
