Recently, many Facebook social network accounts posted a video clip with the content of the exchange between singer Long Nhat and female singer Cao Lang. When exchanging with the female singer from Tuyen Quang, singer Long Nhat read a poem with the following content:
"Remember the day you came to Tuyen Quang
I take you to the peaceful street
Tuyen Quang is small because of the small valley
Hurry up, walk quickly
You see the city is green all around
Surrounded by forests and mountains
The land still flows and the Lo River still flows.
The sky is vast and the clouds are peaceful.
Walk with me a few slopes
What's wrong? Why are your legs tired?
Tomorrow I will say goodbye and go to the big city.
Bring back a little bit of Tuyen Quang"
Many people in Kon Tum were surprised by singer Long Nhat's copyright infringement on television.
After the poem reading by singer Long Nhat, many people felt that the above poem was "somewhat similar" to the poem A Little Kon Tum by poet Ta Van Sy (in Kon Tum). Some people also thought that singer Long Nhat had violated copyright by not mentioning the name of the poet. When reciting the poem, singer Long Nhat did not introduce whose poem it was and arbitrarily transformed and changed some words and place names.
Specifically, the poem A Little Bit of Kon Tum by poet Ta Van Sy has the following content:
"Because the first time I visited you
I take you to visit the peaceful city
Kon Tum is small because of the small valley.
Slow down, hurry up
You see, the street is green all around.
Surrounded by forests and mountains
The land flows downstream but the river flows upstream.
The sky is vast, the clouds are white and peaceful
Oh the roads, connecting the city with the forest
Bringing nature so close
Like the light of the thousand-year-old towering mountains
People here have very broad souls.
Come with me to some slopes
No problem, my legs are tired.
Goodbye tomorrow, I'm going back to the big city.
Bring back a little Kon Tum."
On the afternoon of July 31, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, poet Ta Van Sy said he was waiting for an answer from singer Long Nhat.
Singer Long Nhat reading someone else's poem without revealing the author made many people in Kon Tum angry.
According to Mr. Ta Van Sy, the above poem was composed by him in January 1992. Just 2 weeks later, the poem was set to music by the late musician Ngoc Minh. This poem is to commemorate the founding of Kon Tum province.
"What surprised me was that when introducing, singer Long Nhat said 'Long Nhat has a poem, Long Nhat always remembers it...' which made others naturally think that this was a poem composed by the singer. Besides, changing the place name from Kon Tum to Tuyen Quang made not only me but also many people who know A Little Bit of Kon Tum quite surprised and upset", the poet said.
Singer Long Nhat wrote an apology to poet Ta Van Sy on his personal page.
According to Mr. Ta Van Sy, after the above video was posted on social media, many friends called to share and advise him to sue singer Long Nhat. However, he refused and said he would wait for the singer to contact him again to resolve the matter amicably.
As for Long Nhat, the male singer also wrote an apology to poet Ta Van Sy on his personal page. The singer said he had read and known the poem 30 years ago. In a recent TV show, Long Nhat mistakenly read Kon Tum as Tuyen Quang. Currently, this singer has worked with and asked Vinh Long Television to cut out the part where the poem was read incorrectly about the above place name.
Poet Ta Van Sy interacts with students in Kon Tum
According to Mr. Dinh Su Giang, Chairman of the Kon Tum Province Literature and Arts Association, for many years, “A Little Kon Tum” has become a famous and influential song in the locality. Not only that, this poem has also been included in textbooks and local education programs in Kon Tum for grades 8 and 11.
Regarding the recent incident, Mr. Giang said that the singer can say he doesn't remember the author's name, or borrow the author's poem, but he shouldn't say he has a poem and then present it in a way that causes others to misunderstand. "For big programs on television, you should also be careful, especially when reading poems by other authors," Mr. Giang said.
According to the reporter's investigation, this video was cut from episode 9 of the Masked Duet program of Vinh Long Television Station.
