Singer Ut Mai reveals the reason why People's Artist Thanh Hoa gave her a stage name

Possessing a sweet voice and a lovely face, Ut Mai won second prize in the Thanh Hoa Television Singing Contest 2003 and was in the Top 10 of the national finals of Sao Mai 2003.

In 2004, she won a gold medal in the National Singing Contest for Art Students organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism , a gold medal in the National Singing Contest for Vocational High School Students...

Graduated from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, she is currently a vocal lecturer at the Central University of Art Education.

Beloved for the songs "Lullaby of the Country", " Hanoi Song", "Season of Swallows Flying", "Aspiration", "Gan Lam Truong Sa", "Khuc Hat Song Que", "Quang Binh Que Ta Oi"..., with more than 20 years pursuing a singing career, Ut Mai has released the albums "Sao Khong La Bai Ca", CDs, DVDs "Ben Xuan Xua", "Que Oi"...

Recently, the female singer from Thanh Hoa performed more than 20 folk songs from different regions such as "Lợ hen voi đồng Lam", "Tử em cầu vi song Lam", "Nho que", " Hà Tĩnh que oi", " Đường về xu Thanh"... and introduced them on youtube.

Before entering the National Academy of Music, Ut Mai studied vocal music at the Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism and was hired as a lecturer. After that, she was sent by the school to study part-time at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, but only studied for 3 months a year. Wanting to focus on music, Ut Mai left Thanh Hoa for Hanoi to study full-time at the Academy.

"I came from Thanh Hoa to study with nothing, taking care of everything and learning everything myself. In my first year of study, I performed at coffee shops and music venues with a salary of 70,000 - 80,000 VND, staying in a 7m2 house with singer Thanh Le. No one in my family is in the arts, nor do they have the means, and we don't even have enough to eat, so if I don't try, I will stay in the same place. I have to try to both study and work to ensure my life and studies" - Ut Mai confided.

During those difficult early days, the female singer met People's Artist Thanh Hoa and was invited to sing with a preferential salary of 120,000 VND/show. It was People's Artist Thanh Hoa who gave her the stage name Ut Mai. The female singer said that her birth name is Ut, and she participated in Sao Mai 2023, so her stage name is Ut Mai.

"I am always grateful to People's Artist Thanh Hoa because when I first arrived in Hanoi, she created favorable conditions and helped me a lot. The name she gave me was also very "lucky". I was lucky to have teachers who guided and instructed me a lot" - singer Ut Mai shared.

Looking back on the past, the female singer confided that sometimes when she thinks back, her life is like a dream, because if she didn't work hard, she wouldn't have had today. The life of an artist is like a silkworm spinning silk, if you work hard, you will have "sweet fruits". After many ups and downs, I currently have a stable life. I think I should just be content with what I have, being able to sing is happiness" - Ut Mai expressed.
