On the afternoon of March 14, Hoang Thuy Linh introduced the film project “We are Vietnamese” (Vietnamese Concert Film). This is a documentary film belonging to Hoang Thuy Linh’s “Vietnamese Concert” ecosystem taking place in September 2023.
After nearly 2 years of completion, the film is a gift that Hoang Thuy Linh respectfully sends to the audience, and is also a place where she keeps precious memories of her youth with her close brothers and teammates.
On this occasion, she shared with VietnamPlus E-newspaper reporters about her new plans after a long period of silence.
Inspire to pursue your dreams
- Hoang Thuy Linh's "branded" hits such as "See love," "Let Mi tell you," "Ke thief met old lady"... are brilliantly performed on the big screen, along with realistic images of the production process of "Vietnamese Concert." Why did you invest in making this product?
Singer Hoang Thuy Linh: I am extremely respectful and grateful to the leaders of departments, ministries, bureaus, state agencies, as well as the press, seniors, colleagues, friends, and audiences who have given Linh their love, patience, and kindness over the years so that Linh can work, dedicate herself, and contribute a small part to Vietnamese music .
Every profession has its own difficulties and challenges to grow up. Linh always cherishes every challenge and experience that she has, the journey she has gone through, especially the love of everyone. That is the motivation and extremely valuable opportunity for Linh to try, make efforts, improve herself and learn every day throughout her career journey.
Linh always believes that working, uniting, and supporting each other will bring development and prosperity, as well as happiness because she has contributed her small strength to the garden of music. Linh accepts everything, looks back at herself, and especially always keeps the most beautiful feelings, the "oxygen" that has created the source of life for Hoang Thuy Linh today.
That is also the main spirit of the film project "We are Vietnamese" - the power of solidarity and the spread of love, creating the most beautiful and precious memories.
- It is a documentary about the concert process, not a portrait of Hoang Thuy Linh's career. Do you think the film is attractive enough to attract audiences to the theater?
Singer Hoang Thuy Linh: With nearly 40 cameras, Linh has a huge amount of film recorded over 6 months from the first day of preparation to the day of the concert, the total footage is equivalent to 20 movies. The investment budget is indeed not small.
Money is important, but from the beginning, Linh considered this a memory with her teammates, a gratitude and sharing with the audience, so Linh did not focus on revenue.
Maybe the movie can inspire people to strive to pursue and realize their dreams like Linh is doing.
- After a period of silence, is the release of the film at this time a springboard for Linh to return to showbiz?
Singer Hoang Thuy Linh: No, I think “springboard” is a bit strong. This is more of a motivation and opportunity for Linh. As long as people still love and want to hear Linh sing, I will continue to work and try. This also depends on Linh’s teammates, if they don’t want to do it anymore, I don’t know what to do (laughs).

- Throughout the film, we can see that Linh is always strong and decisive in building her products. Do you avoid showing your dark corners and sadness or do you not have any?
Singer Hoang Thuy Linh: I also have moments of weakness, crushing my own suffering, but there is no camera to record it, and filming it myself is also strange (laughs). Linh wants to keep positive images. As Linh said, every profession has its hardships. I want to convey the message to everyone to overcome difficulties with ideals, dreams and hugs from friends and relatives. Work and enjoy happiness. Linh wants to create in happiness and joy, not to take material and inspiration from suffering.
- During the time you were quiet in the arts, there were rumors in showbiz that Hoang Thuy Linh was in love and had her own happiness?
Singer Hoang Thuy Linh: During this period, Linh would like to keep her private life private to focus on sharing about music. I can briefly share that: Linh is happy and has many sources of happiness in life. The important source of spiritual nourishment for Linh is the love and affection of the audience.
Regarding personal happiness, Linh thinks that every girl wants to have a small, warm family, to be able to give birth to children who love life, love people, and love work, like Linh was born into such a family. But to have that, I want to perfect myself first. Linh wants to become a mother who can make her children proud.
- You seem to be very different from the fierce Hoang Thuy Linh when performing “Vietnamese Concert,” different from the singer who “slipped up her tongue” in the previous press conference. Is Linh now more gentle and tactful?
Singer Hoang Thuy Linh: I think I'm still the same, not because I want to achieve some goal but because I have to change to be more skillful. Actually, I'm learning to become more mature.
After each stumble, Linh always thinks and reviews herself, learns lessons, but life is like that, and another lesson will come. The bigger the lesson, the more mature I become.
Linh thinks that if you want to be happy, you have to change yourself, like a caterpillar in a cocoon, you have to go through a long process to become a beautiful butterfly. I just hope that the audience and the press will "raise high and hit lightly," be tolerant not only with Linh but also with other young artists who are also trying very hard.
I am determined on my musical path, which is to convey the beauty of Vietnamese culture into my works, because I love the traditional culture of the nation. Thanks to the formal training from my family and school ( Hanoi College of Arts and Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema), Linh has the knowledge foundation to study for a Master's degree in Film Criticism Theory. In addition, Linh also cultivates and enriches her knowledge of culture while learning from her seniors and teammates.
However, I still see myself as just a fish swimming in a pool of knowledge. I think there is nothing more convincing than action. I will prove my passion and effort through my music products.

The film will have limited screenings after 6 p.m. on March 14 in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Can Tho.
