The controversy surrounding the Vietnamese youth table tennis team's mid-season coaching change, due to accusations of irresponsibility and failure to ensure adequate meals for the athletes, remains a hot topic. Leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have stated that the ministry will not let this matter be swept under the rug but will address the root of the problem. Not only will the coach be dismissed, but those involved will also face appropriate disciplinary action, setting an example for national teams in general and youth teams in particular.
Mr. Dang Ha Viet, Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, emphasized: "We consider this a major lesson and will urgently conduct a thorough review of the training of the national teams. This is truly a wake-up call for managers and coaches who do not pay attention to the athletes, only focusing on personal gain and ignoring other issues, including the living conditions and daily lives of the athletes."
The Department of Sports and Physical Education will hold a meeting after the sports delegation returns from the 19th Asian Games (in China) to finalize the training plans for the national teams. Teams training outside the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi will need stricter controls, not only regarding professional training but also nutrition and transportation. Alternatively, they may be completely withdrawn to the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi (as happened with the Vietnamese youth table tennis team after the recent incident). The sports sector will not allow teams to establish separate funds for any purpose (especially if these funds are managed by the coaches). The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also requires units to enhance their responsibility in coordinating work, not delegating everything to the coaching staff, to avoid lax management of the teams.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requires all individuals and groups involved in the incident to write self-criticism reports, explanations, and submit them to the Ministry before October 15th. These include former head coach of the Vietnamese youth table tennis team, Bui Xuan Ha; leaders of the High-Performance Sports Department 2 under the Department of Sports and Physical Education; the Table Tennis Department of the Department of Sports and Physical Education; the National Sports Complex; and the Hanoi Sports Training Center. Based on the explanations from each individual and group, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will decide on further action.
