Yemen players cried after losing to U23 Vietnam. |
The match at Viet Tri Stadium is considered the “final” of Group C, when both U23 Vietnam and U23 Yemen still have a chance to continue. With just a minimal victory, the West Asian representative will qualify for the final round. Therefore, Coach Al Sunaini asked his students to enter the match cautiously, prioritizing the solidity of the defense.
The balance of the match lasted throughout the first half. In the second half, the speed of the match was pushed up. U23 Vietnam pressed strongly, creating significant pressure on the white shirt defense. The turning point appeared in the 70th minute, when Thanh Nhan launched a decisive shot to open the score. The goal of the PVF-CAND striker not only broke the deadlock but also extinguished the hope of U23 Yemen.
When the final whistle blew, many Yemeni players collapsed on the field, covering their faces and sobbing. The coaching staff had to run in to console them, but many players still shed tears as they entered the tunnel. For them, this defeat meant their continental dream was shattered right before their eyes.
On the contrary, U23 Vietnam finished the qualifying round with a perfect record, convincingly taking the top spot in the group. Coach Al Sunaini admitted after the match: “U23 Yemen faced one of the top teams in Asia. That is the reason why we lost.”
