Basic positions of officers in the Vietnam People's Army

According to Article 11 of the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army 1999 (amended 2008, 2014), the positions of officers in the Vietnam People's Army include:

a. Minister of Defense .

b. Chief of the General Staff; Director of the General Political Department.

c. Director General, Director General, Political Commissar of the General Department.

d. Commander of Military Region, Political Commissar of Military Region; Commander of Military Service, Political Commissar of Military Service; Commander of Border Guard, Political Commissar of Border Guard.

d. Corps Commander, Corps Political Commissar; Corps Commander, Corps Political Commissar; Naval Region Commander, Naval Region Political Commissar.

e. Division Commander, Division Political Commissar; Commander of Military Command of Province, City under Central Government (hereinafter referred to as provincial level), Political Commissar of Provincial Military Command; Commander of Provincial Border Guard Command, Political Commissar of Provincial Border Guard Command;

g. Brigade Commander, Brigade Political Commissar.

h. Regiment Commander, Regiment Political Commissar; Commander of the Military Command of a district, town, or city under a province (hereinafter referred to as district level), Political Commissar of the District Military Command.

i. Battalion Commander, Battalion Political Commissar.

k. Company Commander, Company Political Commissar.

l. Platoon Leader.

In there:

- Positions and titles equivalent to the positions specified in points c, d and dd, Clause 1, Article 11 of the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army 1999 (amended 2008, 2014) as prescribed by the Government.

- Positions and titles equivalent to the positions specified in points e, g, h, i, k and l, Clause 1, Article 11 of the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army 1999 (amended 2008, 2014) are prescribed by the Minister of National Defense.
