The Netherlands is currently Vietnam’s second largest trading partner in Europe and the largest investor of the European Union (EU) in Vietnam. The two countries have identified five priority areas for development cooperation, including: Climate change adaptation and water management, Agriculture, Energy, Marine economy and Logistics services.

Recalling the history of 400 years ago, when Dutch merchants came to do business and trade in Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister hoped that the Vietnamese and Dutch business communities would discuss specific projects, potential fields, and strengths based on the needs of each country's economy.

"You can also share the difficulties and obstacles you are facing when investing and doing business in Vietnam. What should the Government, ministries, sectors and localities do to resolve them?", the Deputy Prime Minister discussed with Dutch businesses at the discussion.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Vietnam and the Netherlands have similarities from beautiful nature, hard-working and friendly people, to being affected by climate change, rising sea levels... Therefore, Vietnam needs to share knowledge and experience from the Netherlands' development model in natural disaster prevention, climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas emission reduction, transition to a green economy... This is an opportunity for Dutch enterprises to seek and have effective investment and business projects in Vietnam.

"Vietnam is a developing country but has made strong commitments to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero, green transition, converting fossil energy to renewable energy... with many projects waiting for Dutch businesses to invest. For example, in the field of renewable energy, Vietnam has the potential to become a renewable energy center of the world, producing and exporting green fuels (green hydrogen, green ammonia)...", the Deputy Prime Minister clarified.

In addition, with the signing of 15 free trade agreements (FTAs) with all major economies in the world, investment projects of Dutch enterprises in Vietnam also benefit from these FTAs.

Dutch businesses want to be facilitated in visa procedures and have their entry time extended; the State should support domestic businesses to meet the standards and regulations as committed to the FTAs in order to effectively take advantage of the opportunities from these FTAs.

The Deputy Prime Minister directly answered a number of issues on the development orientation of offshore wind power centers associated with the green hydrogen and green ammonia production industry according to the Power Plan VIII; technology transfer to convert fossil energy sources to renewable energy; exploitation and use of sea sand as construction materials...

On the sidelines of the discussion, corporations such as Geleximco, Flamingo, Tan Cang Saigon… highly appreciated the extensive experience, advanced technology, and capacity of Dutch enterprises in exploiting sea sand; minimizing the impact on the ecological environment when reclaiming the sea; dredging seaport channels; seaport management models; cooperation in technology, building smart ports, and training human resources.

The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that Dutch enterprises work directly with Vietnamese enterprises, as well as ministries and sectors, to exchange, share frankly and propose investment and business cooperation ideas for implementation in the coming period, contributing to promoting economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.
