On the afternoon of August 20th, at the regular press conference organized by the Propaganda Department of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, representatives of the Organizing Committee of the Asia- Pacific Robocon Competition (ABU Robocon) 2024 announced that the ABU Robocon 2024 competition will be held from August 23rd to 27th at the Quang Ninh Sports Complex, Dai Yen Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province.
ABU Robocon, organized annually by the Asia- Pacific Broadcasting Association, is a competition for robotics-loving students from countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region.

The 2024 competition, themed "Harvest Day," aims to celebrate the value of agriculture, especially rice cultivation on terraced fields – a distinctive feature of Vietnamese culture. Participating robots will perform tasks simulating the rice planting process, from sowing seedlings to harvesting.
ABU Robocon 2024 features 13 teams from 12 countries and territories, with 350 contestants from Japan, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Malaysia, Nepal, Egypt, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Vietnam is represented by two teams: SKH AUTOMATION and SKH – CK1 from Hung Yen University of Technology and Education.
The competition is expected to attract 2,000 spectators, 200 cheerleaders (students from Ha Long University), and local residents to watch at the Quang Ninh Provincial Sports Complex.
Besides the official matches, the organizers will hold many attractive side activities, such as knowledge sharing sessions on programming and control, robot construction, and tours of the Ha Long Bay heritage site…
"Up to this point, all organizational and preparatory work for the competition has been meticulously carried out by Vietnam Television and Quang Ninh province," the representative of the Organizing Committee emphasized.

The entire ABU Robocon 2024 competition at the Quang Ninh Sports Complex on August 25th will be broadcast live on VTV2, Vietnam Television.
Explaining the choice of "Harvest Day" as the theme for the competition, a representative of the organizing committee stated that for millennia, rice has been closely associated with the Vietnamese people. Rice not only provides sustenance but also becomes a beautiful aspect of Vietnamese cultural and spiritual life. Today, rice is both an important food source and a strategic export commodity for Vietnam.
Among the unique farming practices in the traditional agriculture of the people living in the high mountainous regions of Vietnam is terraced rice fields. People select hillsides and mountainsides to create flat areas of land for cultivating rice seedlings and planting rice. The purpose of terraced rice fields is to prevent erosion, improve soil quality, and protect the land.
A striking feature of terraced rice fields is that during the planting season, from around June to October, the mountain slopes resemble "a work of art" sculpted into the mountains by the local farmers. These terraced fields are not only beautiful but also serve as the "rice granary" for the highlanders, enabling them to cultivate crops efficiently using natural conditions, thus ensuring a prosperous life.
At the 2023 ABU Robocon competition, the Vietnamese team won third place and the award for outstanding technical performance.
