Eliminate high school transcript consideration and early admission
Hanoi University of Industry has just announced its expected regular university enrollment plan for 2025.
Accordingly, the school uses 5 admission methods, including: direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (no quota limit); admission based on international certificate scores/excellent student awards combined with the total transcript scores of grades 10, 11, 12 of 3 subjects according to the admission combination (expected quota 10%); admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam in 2025 (expected quota 80%); admission based on the results of the 2025 capacity assessment exam organized by Hanoi National University combined with the total transcript scores of grades 10, 11, 12 of 3 subjects according to the admission combination (expected quota 5%); Admission is based on the results of the 2025 thinking assessment test organized by Hanoi University of Science and Technology combined with the total score of the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade transcripts of 3 subjects according to the admission combination (expected quota 5%).
Thus, compared to 2024, Hanoi University of Industry will abandon the admission method based solely on high school academic results, instead combining the academic results of grades 10, 11, and 12 of the subjects in the admission group with the scores of other assessment exams.
Along with the above changes, the school added a number of admission combinations with new subjects according to the 2018 high school education program such as: A0C (math, physics, technology), A0T (math, physics, IT), B0C (math, chemistry, technology), D0C (math, English, technology), D0G (math, English, economic and legal education).
Regarding the organization of admission, the school does not conduct early admission but considers all methods according to the general admission plan of the Ministry of Education and Training. The admission scores and passing scores of the methods are converted to the same scale, candidates are considered equally according to the equivalent converted scores, regardless of the method.
Dr. Than Thanh Son, Head of Training Department of Hanoi University of Industry, shared: the school adjusted the admission method, added admission combinations, and organized admission based on 3 factors: the school's training goals, the 2018 high school education program, and the draft 2025 admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
This change both inherits the admission methods used in recent years and combines the knowledge that candidates have accumulated according to the 2018 high school education program, while meeting new points on admission organization in terms of methods and admission combinations as in the draft 2025 admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
In addition to Hanoi University of Industry, in 2025, many training institutions will not use the high school transcript admission method such as: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, National Economics University, Hanoi Medical University...
What do educational institutions and candidates need to prepare?
In the future, the admission regulations will certainly have many adjustments; therefore, training institutions and candidates need to proactively prepare, reserve plans as well as be mentally prepared to adapt.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Linh, a teacher at Nguyen Trai High School - Ba Dinh (Hanoi) shared: the school and teachers always advise students to focus on studying well until the end of grade 12, grasp basic knowledge to achieve the highest results in the high school graduation exam; avoid the case of only focusing on IELTS review or separate exams and neglecting the main curriculum.
“No matter how the regulations change, the knowledge in the high school program still plays a decisive role and the results of the high school graduation exam are still the foundation for admission to universities. In addition, if students want to take a certificate exam or take a separate exam, they can proactively arrange their time to study and review effectively,” said teacher Nguyen Ngoc Linh.
Basically, the expected 2025 enrollment plan of schools does not have many changes for candidates. Candidates can still use the certificates and accumulated capacity assessment scores for admission. Although many schools tend to stop considering transcripts, the results of 3 years of high school are still very valuable in combined admission (transcripts combined with foreign language certificates; transcripts combined with separate exam results, etc.). It is very likely that the early admission results will be announced later than every year, that is, after May 31, so focusing on studying well until the end of grade 12 and doing well in the high school graduation exam plays a decisive role. Candidates need to be aware of this to adjust their spirit, plan, and increase their determination to study.
The draft stipulates that the admission scores of the methods must be converted to a unified scale. Therefore, educational institutions need to pay attention to updating and upgrading the admission registration software system to facilitate candidates and meet the regulations.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the draft admission regulations mainly focus on overcoming the shortcomings in the current admission work and are built on the basis of ensuring harmony between the autonomy of higher education institutions and the responsibility of state management of higher education. The adjustments in the draft do not limit autonomy, while improving the quality of admission and allowing higher education to fulfill its responsibility of developing human resources for the country.
