5 dietary tips to help control blood sugar levels

Diabetic patients need to be careful not to let their blood sugar levels rise too high, as this can easily lead to dangerous complications.

To achieve this, they need to eat a balanced, healthy diet, according to Express .

With this in mind, nutritionist Mark Gilbert from the Cambridge Weight Plan 1:1 Diet (UK) has recommended five ways to avoid blood sugar spikes during meals.

1. Reduce starch intake and choose fiber-rich options. Gilbert advises ensuring meals are low in starch – also known as carbohydrates (carbs) – because all carbs (except fiber) are absorbed as sugar, which causes most problems in diabetics.

Foods rich in fiber

Whole grains, such as brown rice, whole-wheat bread, and quinoa, are higher in fiber and generally cause less of a spike in blood sugar.

2. Control portion sizes. Expert Gilbert says: Pay attention to portion sizes to help regulate blood sugar and maintain a healthy weight.

Use measuring cups or food scales to ensure accurate portion sizes.

New discovery: This nutrient helps extend lifespan.

A new study, published in the scientific journal Science , has found that taurine—a nutrient found in meat, fish, milk, and some energy drinks—may be the "elixir of immortality."

It turns out the "fountain of youth" might be in your refrigerator, according to the New York Post.

Taurine may be a kind of "elixir of immortality." Research from Columbia University (USA) has revealed that taurine appears to slow down the aging process and prolong healthy lifespan.

Dr. Vijay Yadav, associate professor of genetics and development at Columbia University, said: "This research suggests that taurine could be a kind of 'elixir of immortality' that helps people live longer and healthier lives."

Dr. Yadav and his research team conducted experiments with animals and humans to determine the role of taurine—which the body also produces—in health and longevity.

Taurine, a nutrient found in meat, fish, milk, and some energy drinks, may be the "elixir of immortality."

They discovered that taurine levels in 60-year-olds were only one-third of those in 5-year-olds.

Studies on mice and monkeys have confirmed that taurine levels also decrease significantly over time. Dr. Yadav stated: “This finding led us to question whether taurine deficiency might be a cause of aging, and we conducted a large experiment with mice.”

Itching while a burn is healing: How to reduce the itching?

Itchy skin is very common as burns begin to heal. There are many ways to reduce this uncomfortable itching sensation. Some methods can be applied at home.

Skin burns are a fairly common health problem. Statistics in the US show that about 86% of burn cases are due to heat exposure. Other causes include exposure to X-ray radiation, chemicals, electricity, and several others, according to the health website Healthline (US).

Burns on the hands and feet are more prone to itching than burns on other areas of the skin once they heal.

Treatment for burns depends on several factors such as the area of skin affected, depth, location, age, and health condition of the patient. For minor burns, patients should rinse the burn with cool water, wash with mild antibacterial soap, apply antibiotic ointment, and bandage it if necessary.

If the burn causes pain or discomfort, use over-the-counter pain relievers. Severe burns will require emergency medical treatment.
