Foreign Minister Lavrov said that the years-long expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is one of the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, so ensuring Kiev's non-aligned status remains one of the goals of the special military operation that must be achieved.
He also said that it was impossible to guess the meaning of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's public admission that " it is impossible to regain lost territories by force" and that Moscow would "not believe the statements" because the Kiev government "continues to make many different statements".
Besides, Russia firmly refused to participate in the " peace summit" even if invited, but is still ready to negotiate on Kiev, on condition that the agreements must be " credible, legally binding, eliminate the root causes of the conflict and protect the mechanism that cannot violate them".
Regarding the possibility of negotiations, Lavrov noted, it is necessary to understand "with whom they will be held and on what issues."
Asked whether the West was accusing Russia of escalating the conflict due to the alleged involvement of North Korean troops in the fighting, the Russian foreign minister asserted that false reports promoted by the West were "becoming more aggressive".
According to the veteran diplomat , those who accuse Russia of escalation should "look at themselves", because NATO soldiers and mercenaries "are involved in planning and conducting combat operations together with the Ukrainian armed forces, attacking Kursk and launching long-range missile strikes on Russian territory".
Regarding the issue of Taiwan (China), Foreign Minister Lavrov said: "Our principled stance remains unchanged... Moscow reaffirms its commitment to the 'one China' principle, recognizes Taiwan as an inseparable part of China and opposes the independence of this territory in any form."
Regarding the situation in the Middle East, the head of Russian diplomacy said that the "circle of violence" in the Middle East has expanded beyond the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to Lebanon and the Red Sea. The Iran-Israel confrontation has reached a dangerous threshold.
