Marseille decided to take strong action with Rabiot and Rowe.

"Olympique de Marseille announces that Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe have been placed on the transfer list due to unacceptable behaviour in the dressing room following the match against Stade Rennais FC," the statement read.

The decision was made on the recommendation of the coaching staff, based on the club's code of conduct, and was communicated directly to the two players by the club's leadership. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Rabiot and Rowe's futures with Marseille have come to an end.

According to RMC Sport , the incident occurred after a 0-1 defeat to Rennes in the opening round of Ligue 1 2025/26 on August 16. In the locker room, Rabiot and Rowe had an argument, which escalated into a threat, before Rowe suddenly slapped his teammate in the face.

The situation became chaotic, forcing coach Roberto De Zerbi, sporting director Medhi Benatia and other players to intervene to prevent things from getting out of hand. In addition, the internal atmosphere of Marseille became more tense when key players publicly criticized the playing spirit of some teammates.

The disagreement has caused further rifts in the dressing room, directly threatening Marseille's plan to conquer Ligue 1 this season. Opening with a defeat, and being caught up in an internal scandal, the French port city team fell into an unstable situation right at the beginning of the season.
