Marseille decided to take drastic action against Rabiot and Rowe. |
"Olympique de Marseille announces that Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe have been placed on the transfer list due to unacceptable behavior in the dressing room after the match against Stade Rennais FC," the statement read.
The decision was made on the recommendation of the coaching staff, based on the club's code of conduct, and the two players were directly informed by the club's leadership. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Rabiot and Rowe's futures with Marseille are now closed.
According to RMC Sport , the incident occurred after the 0-1 defeat against Rennes in the opening round of Ligue 1 2025/26 on August 16th. In the dressing room, Rabiot and Rowe exchanged words, which escalated into threats, before Rowe unexpectedly slapped his teammate in the face.
The situation became chaotic, forcing coach Roberto De Zerbi, along with Sporting Director Medhi Benatia and other players, to intervene to prevent it from getting out of control. Furthermore, the internal atmosphere at Marseille became even more tense when key players publicly criticized the fighting spirit of some teammates.
Disagreements have further fractured the dressing room, directly threatening Marseille's plans to conquer Ligue 1 this season. Starting with a defeat and embroiled in internal scandals, the French port city team finds itself in a precarious situation at the beginning of the season.
