Cambodia to start construction of highway from Phnom Penh to Vietnam border

Cambodia is about to start construction of a new expressway, connecting the capital Phnom Penh with Bavet city, adjacent to Moc Bai border gate ( Tay Ninh province) in June 2023, connecting with the Moc Bai-Ho Chi Minh City expressway.

According to a VNA correspondent in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian Ministry of Transport and Public Works is carrying out the final stages of construction of a new expressway connecting the country's capital Phnom Penh with Bavet city (Svay Rieng province), adjacent toMoc Bai border gate (Tay Ninh province) in June 2023, connecting with the Moc Bai-Ho Chi Minh City expressway in Vietnam.

The above information was confirmed by Cambodian Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol on April 21 at the inauguration ceremony of the Samrong Andeth Vehicle Inspection Center in the capital Phnom Penh.

Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen is expected to preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway, the second expressway project in this Southeast Asian country with a total investment of about 1.6 billion USD and a total length of 138km.

The expressway aims to strengthen connectivity and promote socio -economic development in border provinces, especially export and trade activities in the border areas of Cambodia-Vietnam and other countries in the region.

According to the design, the Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway is 25.5m wide with 4 lanes, two lanes in each direction, starting at Ring Road 3 in the capital Phnom Penh, passing through the provinces of Kandal, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng and ending in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province, bordering Vietnam.

The Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway project is invested and constructed by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

CRBC is also the investor of the first expressway of more than 190km in length in Cambodia, connecting the capital Phnom Penh with the coastal province of Preah Sihanouk with a total investment of 1.9 billion USD under the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT).

The Phnom Penh-Preah Sihanouk route was inaugurated and put into use from October 2022 with an operating period of 50 years./.
