On February 29, at the regular February meeting, the Hanoi People's Committee reviewed a number of contents expected to be submitted to the City People's Council for approval in March 2024. Delegates gave their opinions on completing the project to renovate and upgrade Highway 70, Ha Dong - Van Dien - Tu Hiep intersection section.
Road 70, Ha Dong - Tu Hiep intersection section, is about 6km long, running along densely populated residential areas and is a vital route connecting National Highway 6 and National Highway 1A.
However, recently, many new housing areas along with hospital and school systems have caused frequent traffic jams on this road, failing to meet the travel needs of the people.
According to Dan Viet reporters, every day there are thousands of heavy trucks running along this route with motorbikes.
The road surface is only about 8-9 meters wide, with no median strip. Just two containers going in opposite directions can completely take up the road surface, forcing motorbikes to weave their way through.
On Highway 70, the Ha Dong - Van Dien section has some serious traffic jams during rush hours such as in front of Tan Trieu K Hospital gate, the intersection between Highway 70 and Chu Van An Street.
The intersection of Highway 70 to Xa La Street and the end of Chu Van An Avenue is a "black spot" for traffic congestion on Highway 70. Traffic congestion occurs frequently here even during non-rush hours.
When traffic jams occur, motorbikes and electric bicycles have to weave through long lines of cars to find space, and many motorbikes have to go onto the sidewalk.
The bridge at this intersection has been widened to ease congestion.

After completing the upgrade and renovation, the route will contribute to reducing traffic congestion and promoting socio -economic development for the western region of Hanoi.
