Can Tho commits to accompany and resolve problems with businesses

(Chinhphu.vn) – With the motto "Government and enterprises go together and develop", on July 23, the leaders of Can Tho City organized a meeting with businesses and investors in 2025. This is the first locality in the country to organize a meeting with businesses, after the merger of provinces and cities.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Van Lau said: Since the beginning of the year, investment, production and business activities of Can Tho City have shown signs of good recovery, especially after the Politburo issued Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW on private economic development. In the first 6 months of the year, the City had more than 2,400 newly registered and re-established enterprises (an increase of 30% over the same period last year).

Accordingly, the economic growth rate of Can Tho City reached 7.87%, higher than the national average (national average 7.31%), ranked 19th out of 34 provinces and cities and ranked 2nd in the Mekong Delta region (after An Giang province).

The positive results in the socio-economic development of the City have a very important contribution from the business community. In particular, enterprises and the private economy create added value, contributing about 74% of the total GRDP and over 80% of the total budget revenue of the City.

According to Mr. Tran Van Lau, Can Tho City is entering a new development phase with many potentials and opportunities after the merger. The city is urgently reviewing and adjusting plans to ensure consistency, synchronization and maximize the potential and advantages of the new city.

At the same time, focus on accelerating the progress of key projects, developing industrial parks, attracting investment, and building modern logistics centers associated with seaports and airports.

"The city also pays special attention to perfecting mechanisms and policies to promptly remove bottlenecks and bottlenecks, meeting the requirements of rapid and sustainable development. Continue to promote administrative reform, improve the investment environment in the direction of openness, transparency, convenience, safety and friendliness. The city is committed to always accompanying the business community, listening and promptly resolving difficulties and problems," said Mr. Tran Van Lau.

This will be the basis for Can Tho City to promptly adjust and perfect mechanisms and policies, creating an increasingly favorable and attractive investment and business environment; making practical contributions to economic development. By 2030, strive to build Can Tho City into a national development pole, playing the role of a driving force for development, spreading and leading the entire Mekong Delta region.

At the meeting, business representatives raised difficulties and inadequacies and recommended that the city promptly resolve difficulties related to planning, land procedures, compensation, site clearance, taxes and fees, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Phuong Lam, Director of VCCI Can Tho branch, highly appreciated the development of Can Tho city in the first 6 months of 2025.

However, Mr. Lam pointed out that: Although the growth rate is quite good, the number of enterprises in Can Tho is small and weak with only nearly 3,000 newly established enterprises, very low compared to many localities in the region because in some places nearly 4,000 enterprises were established, while over 2,000 enterprises left the market.

In terms of registered capital, Can Tho had over VND11,000 billion in the first 6 months of the year, but Tay Ninh reached over VND94,000 billion. On the other hand, the business community has high expectations for regional projects approved by the Government, including logistics projects.

"On behalf of the business community, we recommend that the City soon develop a new plan; complete infrastructure; build a concentrated technology park to attract large investors and operate a two-level government effectively as well as have many attractive policies compared to other localities. At the same time, organize regular meetings with the business community so that leaders can listen and resolve difficulties and concerns of businesses," Mr. Lam pledged.

At the meeting, many issues raised by businesses were satisfactorily answered by leaders of relevant departments and agencies. In addition, some recommendations were also acknowledged by leaders of agencies and they committed to be resolved in the near future.

Speaking at the end of the meeting, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Do Thanh Binh emphasized that meetings like this are very meaningful. This is an opportunity for the City leaders to listen to and record opinions, suggestions and comments from businesses, and promptly come up with more appropriate solutions and policies.

"Today, the recommendations and problems are from the period before the merger. We want to hear opinions and suggestions about the period from July 1, 2025 to present on whether there are any adjustments needed to be made in the operation of the two-level government apparatus, how the public administrative center serves the people, and are there any problems with the direction and operation?", the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee noted.

Regarding specific difficulties and obstacles, Mr. Do Thanh Binh requested the City People's Committee to have specific instructions to remove difficulties for businesses to contribute to the development of the city. Departments and branches should acknowledge and accept all opinions of businesses, carefully study the difficulties and obstacles of businesses to have measures and coordinate to remove them, from communes and wards to departments and branches, agencies and units all have this responsibility.

"The city leaders are very grateful and hope to continue receiving comments from businesses in the coming time, whether in writing, in meetings, or by phone, we are ready to listen. It is good that difficulties are specifically stated, in which agency, which comrade, feedback from businesses and people is very much needed... This is the first meeting after the province's merger, so this should be maintained, from now until the end of the year, there will be 1-2 more meetings", the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee emphasized.
