Can Tho inaugurates the week of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

On December 16th, the People's Committee of Can Tho City, in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized the opening ceremony of the Can Tho Science and Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Week 2025.

The week's theme is " Can Tho - A center for science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation."

Strong determination

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, Truong Canh Tuyen, emphasized that the week-long event is of great significance, demonstrating the city's strong political determination and actions in using science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers for rapid and sustainable development in the new era - the era of national progress.

According to Mr. Tuyen, Can Tho is the central urban area and the development nucleus of the Mekong Delta region. In the context of the rapidly unfolding Fourth Industrial Revolution, the city has always identified science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as the inevitable path to enhancing competitiveness, growth quality, and social governance efficiency.

Over the past period, closely following the policies and resolutions of the Central Government, the city has issued and implemented many programs and plans to promote research, application, and transfer of scientific and technological advancements into key areas such as high-tech agriculture, processing industry, healthcare, education, environment, and urban management.

Scientific and technological activities are gradually becoming more aligned with practical needs, contributing to improving the capacity of businesses, the operational efficiency of agencies and units, and the quality of life for the people.

Simultaneously, the city's startup and innovation ecosystem has been continuously strengthened and developed. Policies supporting startups, connecting universities and businesses, promoting technological innovation, and improving management capacity have gradually proven effective, creating a favorable environment for creative ideas to be implemented, incubated, and commercialized.

In particular, in 2025, the city launched the establishment of the Can Tho City Startup and Innovation Center under the Department of Science and Technology, in accordance with the Central Committee's resolution and the Government's policy. The Center will play a key role in connecting resources and promoting the startup and innovation ecosystem of the city and the entire Mekong Delta region.

In addition, the project to establish the Can Tho City Science and Technology Development and Innovation Fund is being implemented, creating an important resource for research, application, and innovation activities in the future.

"The Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Week, with its rich series of activities such as forums, workshops, seminars, and exhibitions, will be a space for connecting intellect, sharing experiences, and disseminating effective models and solutions."

Through this week-long event, the city aims to: Firstly, identify breakthrough directions and solutions for the development of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation, contributing to the effective implementation of the goals set forth in Resolution 57 of the Politburo.

Secondly, it aims to introduce and celebrate outstanding achievements and exemplary models, promote the connection between technology supply and demand, and commercialize the research results of scientists and experts.

"Thirdly, we need to incorporate feedback and recommendations from experts, businesses, and organizations to refine policy mechanisms in the new phase," Mr. Tuyen said.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, expressed his admiration for the technological products that the city introduced and displayed in the series of events.

According to Mr. Dat, in recent times, under the close leadership and guidance of the Can Tho City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee, the active coordination of departments and agencies, and the responsible support of intellectuals and the business community, the city's science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation sectors have made very positive and commendable progress.

The achievements not only make a significant contribution to socio-economic development, enhance urban governance capacity, and improve the quality of life for citizens, but also gradually build a foundation for a green, sustainable, and modern development model for the city in the coming period.

"The Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department will always accompany the city in guiding ideology, creating unity of understanding, spreading the spirit of innovation and creativity, thereby contributing to mobilizing the intellect of intellectuals, scientists, businesses and the whole society for the development of science and technology and creative entrepreneurship in Can Tho," Mr. Dat said.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Duc Long also stated that the week is not only an opportunity to honor intellectuals and creativity but also a declaration of action by Can Tho city in redefining its development role: from an administrative and educational center to a center of innovation and a center of sustainable development solutions, adapting to the Mekong Delta in the digital age.

Mr. Long also affirmed that the Ministry of Science and Technology is committed to working alongside Can Tho city in perfecting institutions, developing the ecosystem, and implementing an innovation center tailored to the specific characteristics of the Mekong Delta region.

At the program, leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology also presented a certificate of commendation from the Minister of Science and Technology to the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City for its many achievements and positive contributions to the construction and development of the national innovative startup ecosystem in 2025.

Also on the same morning, the opening ceremony of the Can Tho City Science and Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Exhibition 2025 took place at the RLC building (Can Tho University).

According to Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, this is a special highlight of the Science and Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Week, bringing together more than 50 booths, showcasing and introducing over 500 products and technologies in many fields such as cybersecurity, smart cities, financial technology, startup solutions and innovation in the fields of healthcare, education, agriculture, tourism, food technology, and logistics.
