On the gently sloping sand dunes, dozens of large windmill-like blades stand out. The afternoon sun makes the blades even brighter against the blue sky. Taking advantage of the beautiful light, Ms. Lien sits on the steps facing the vast ocean, taking selfies to upload online and share with friends far away, so they can admire the Dai Phong wind farm at sunset.
Having lived in Saigon for many years and rarely traveling far, even wind turbines were something Nguyen Lien only knew about through pictures, television, and social media. On the recent September 2nd holiday, her relatives took her to Thien Nghiep to visit Thien Quang Pagoda. Afterwards, she went to see the Dai Phong wind farm, located not far from Thien Quang Pagoda.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Lan, a local resident of Thien Nghiep commune, guided the tour group and shared: “The Dai Phong wind farm in Thien Nghiep (Phan Thiet) is not the largest; you should go to the hills in Binh Thanh (Tuy Phong), which is considered the cradle of wind power in Vietnam. Hundreds of wind turbines are located next to National Highway 1, so anyone passing through Binh Thanh can stop and take photos with the giant wind turbines…”
In Binh Thanh, visitors can also travel along the coastal road. To the west of the road lies a forest of wind turbines, each tower so large that a person couldn't wrap their arms around it, while the blades rotate tirelessly in the direction of the wind. The most beautiful time is when the sun sets near the foot of the mountains, its rays filtering through the evening clouds, softening the light and enhancing the romantic beauty of the Binh Thanh wind turbine forest.
Not only on the mainland, but Phu Quy Island is also seeing investment in wind power projects. If you travel by helicopter, looking down at the small island from above, you'll experience a mesmerizing beauty, with the bright white wind turbines standing out against the green backdrop of the island. The wind turbines on the island are located near residential areas, making it easy to get close and admire the wind turbines. In the Long Hai area, the wind turbines soar high into the blue sky, with casuarina trees swaying at their base. Between the turbines are small, winding stone-paved roads along the coast, and in the distance, waves occasionally crash against the rocks, creating white foam… The natural scenery here feels truly poetic and romantic.
Binh Thuan, with its abundant sunshine and wind, has a natural advantage in developing clean energy. The "wind farms" in Tuy Phong, Phan Thiet, Ham Thuan Nam, and Phu Quy not only have economic significance and reduce environmental pollution, but are also considered tourism products, attracting travelers to admire, learn about, and take photos, especially appealing to young people.
Nowadays, Binh Thuan not only boasts dense "forests" of windmills on land but also numerous offshore wind power projects. Currently, Binh Thuan has 22 wind power projects planned for 2030. In addition to projects already operational and under construction, there are 11 wind power projects awaiting consideration by the authorities. Of these, 8 are offshore wind power projects. These "wind power forests," whether on land or at sea, are beautiful natural and man-made landscapes that are very attractive to tourists.
